umm, i just drive around and park somewhere else.
im just wondering how long it takes before the car bumps another car and lexus gets sued for it. im guessing it takes some sort of sensors that detect where the other cars are in relation and can compensate

The japanese side of the company I work for is who does the parking feature. It uses cameras and other magic to do it. I've actually used a vehicle equipted with the feature. It's pretty cool but like you all said, it's kind of impractical.

It is amazing how we are in a computer age and it seems that big business is more interested in dumbing us down. They are taking everything we used to do by hand and turning it over to computers. Watch out, the next thing you know they will create a robot to screw our old ladies so we don't have to.

You guys have got to read this book that I'm reading "Radical Evolution." It's about technology and how we won't be able to recognize the human race if technology continues to grow at its current rate. This is just the beginning, pretty soon the cars will be driving themselves and it will be almost impossible to hit another car.

yes, but it will take a good many years for us to not recognize ourselves. the main thing now is as the world becomes a smaller place, the distinguishing marks between races are starting to subside. within 1000 or so years, there will be no blacks, whites, asians, mexicans, well all have diluted our gene pool to where were all just human, again.
as for automotive travel. unless we can make a giant leap in transporter technology within the next decade or so, its going to have to become automated. we can transport a single molecule a centimeter (or maybe it was an inch). we now need to multiply that 100,000 to the 32 power, just to move a friggin beetle a centimeter over, let alone a human miles away.
but soon we will have to rely on automated vehicles. the roadways are just too congested. even if everyone drove perfect, the domino effect permits efficient use of the road systems(IE one car a mile up flickers its brakes for no apparent reason, and it has a domino effect the whole way through the pack). we just cannot fit these cars on the roadways anymore, unless we want to retrofit the current roadways with teirs or multi level sky-ways. were still trying to cram all these cars on a two dimensional plane and its not holding. i think if we built a underground multiple lane freeway system(like iRobot) or multi-level freeway system above ground (like Minority Report), and the cars were computer controlled when you used that system, it would relieve alot of congestion. but we also need to be smarter about city and surface street traffic. maybe that would be semi computer controlled. it would know the location of every other car but did not fully control them on surface streets, but if it recognizes that one car is driving too slow and screwing up traffic, itll bump them up a few. if someone is slowing down way ahead or such, or making a turn at 2mph, itll compensate and move them the fuck out of the way.
i also believe our speed limits should be looked at. as well as we need more thorough driving testing. id make a mandatory 8 hour "offensive" driving class, where they take you behind the wheel, throw you through water boxes at 50mph and you have to control the vehicle, high speed maneuvering and braking, accident awareness, freeway maneuvering and courtesy, just learning to control your vehicle so you dont panic and not instantly assume slamming the brakes is the best solution to the issue. plus i believe cops should be fining drivers for not paying attention(soccer moms in minivans and suv's who cut people off should be fined and jailed!), instead of looking for useless excuses to make the state money.

the problem with that is that its hard for our government to maintain our current highways. super highways underground would be one hell of an investment.
my prediction in the future is more public transportation and air bus type things. flying cars are possible, but a big concern is people can't drive cars so flying cars would be a disaster. so automate them. problem solved.
