This is my first post on this board so sorry if it's in the wrong place. I came on here because I couldn't find solid facts on what upgrades other than body kit and supercharger have been done to 1999 Saleens. Could somebody link me to or tell me what all upgrades have been done as I am about to purchase a '99? Thank you!

I'll give you what I can think of. Theres the body kit, supercharger, big brake kit, exhaust, wheels, several interior pieces, Racecraft suspension, and the Extreme got a 6-speed.
You could look here to see all the parts they make for the car.
Saleen, Inc.
May I also suggest Roush Mustangs, their pretty nice, but I'm a little buyest.

Only the 281-E(Extreme) has a supercharger. A base 281 is basically a stock GT 2-valve with minor tweaks and the suspension, brakes, and cosmetic upgrades. Check Saleen, Inc. for a complete list of specs and information about the 281 for that year

there are many levels of saleens, not just one clear cut saleen package. Most you find available are just stock GT mustangs with a body kit and perhaps exhaust/chip~ nothing specialy by any means.
Then you have the higher end saleens such as the saleen extreme (not sure what year they started with these) and such.

Uh... that's what I thought at first too. Until I noticed the friggin' Roots blower.
Seriously though, I for some reason was looking for a centrifugal too. I was looking at the air box and intake thinking: "This thing isn't blown".
Then it hit me.

you purchased a mustang with out really knowing anything about it, what trim levels they come in, or what they are worth?

I guess you could say that. I haven't owned a Mustang in about 10 years and wanted to get back into them. I assumed that the ad was legit. Did I just get ripped? I haven't paid for it yet...

I dont know the price levels, but I would double check...and if you are gonna drop 20k~ buy an 03/04 cobra and be happy unless you dont like the amazing ly easy way to make massive hp/tq plus they have more hp/tq stock than that car
they have MUCH more potential than that crappy 2 valve 4.6l motor....
(specs are 390hp and 390tq but they are actually between 415hp/tq to 430hp/tq stock and they are EXTREMLY easy to make 500rwhp/tq with or more lol and the engines are FAR stronger)
A roots blower sits on top of the engine (positive displacment blower)

Without knowing how much you paid for it... I can't say whether or not you got "ripped". But it is definitely an authentic supercharged Saleen.

Feel free to call me stupid. I know I am paying a little much but I wanted an authentic Saleen in that exact body style and color and yes it was an impulse buy...
You guys scared the crap out of me when you said you didn't see a supercharger.

There are two basic types of superchargers: centrifugal and roots (twin screw is similar to roots). The centrifugal uses a turbine more like a turbocharger does to force the air into the engine. A roots blower uses impellers in a "figure 8" shape to move air. The centrifugals are more known for taking a while to "spool" up, but generally produce more boost at high RPMs. Meanwhile, a roots is more noticeable throughout the RPM range, but generally does not produce as much peak boost.

everyone has to start somewhere so dont worry we dont mean to make you feel bad lol just messing with you. Feel free to ask any questions you have as thats the only way you can learn. The Hp/tq potential of that car is pretty much maxed as it sits but you should be happy with it, definatly stick around and learn from the community.

A roots blower puts more pressure on the engine as well as it makes boost sooner and generates heat right on top of the motor, do you know if that sucker has an intercooler of any kind if not that would be my FIRST modification.
here are some pics of my car and you can see the engine shots, I also have a roots blower (m112 eaton)

Just to throw in my two cents, that is one bad ass looking saleen. I am jealous. Throw some pics up in the Pics and Vids section ASAP!! Congrats on the purchase, and do ask as many questions around here as you want. I am an idiot my self, and not just with mustangs, but they still keep me around.

If you need more HP you can buy a aftermarket short-block, some ported heads, and a Kenne Bell.

OK, now I feel MUCH better. I did dive in a little uneducated on the subject. That is why I joined this site...I wanted to know more. I thought that what I was looking at in the orange box was part of the supercharger until the first above comments were made that had me sweating. You guys have been a HUGE help and I will for sure be on here more often. I fly to Florida tomorrow to pick it up and drive it back to Atlanta. I tried researching alot in the past couple of weeks but found very little info on that year Saleen. Another reason why I joined the site.
One other question, do any of you know if it already has the chip installed and how much of an exhaust upgrade does Saleen do? Just the mufflers or starting at the headers and to the tips?

yes, it should already be tuned by saleen. I don't see anything about exhaust upgrades in the list he posted of mods by saleen...but if it is the stock gt exhaust, i'd uprgrade that for sure. It does say it is intercooled, so you don't have to worry about getting an intercooler.
Awesome car maybe i'll see you on the streets here in atlanta

When I was at Team ford in Marietta Georgia to have my car SCT tuned by Jerry, he was talking to a couple of Saleen owners who were having issues. Jerry said he called Steve Saleen and said he would provide him with a improved tune that netted 40 HP and help the rich fuel condition Saleen programs into the cars. Steve Saleen declined the offer. It seems in the 99-04 stangs Saleen tunes to the rich side to prevent leaning out the engine and causing a meltdown. So there is ample ability for a SCT tuner to improve the engines capabilities. The downside to a rich fuel condition is lower HP numbers

I know it does come with Saleen exhaust. Just not sure if it's just the mufflers or from the headers down.
What grade fuel do you guys recommend I run?

My I also suggest using Synthetic Oil, preferrable Mobil 1, but any Synthetic is good.

Will do. While I have your attention, do you know who or where I may be able to pick up one of the hood scoops that comes on the newer models?
