pypes exhaust......cats question

Is anyone familiar with Pypes exhaust?? I have a single flowmaster on my car and its not really doing it for me anymore. Pypes makes a complete system which I like. I am torn between the catback system which uses the stock cats and Y pipe, or the full system with x pipe and high flow cats. will the sound from the stock y pipe and cats differ from the sound that the high flow cats and x pipe will produce??

You would get better flow and sound from the high flow cats... Im guessin your goin with true duals since u are gettin a x-pipe...the high flow cats will help along with the x-pipe for sound and performance...i have no cats and a h-pipe with flows and dumps and i love it...

mine is custom... what kinda tests do they have where you live for emissions and stuff like that... dumps dont make it louder they are louder because most people put dumps right off the mufflers and the shorter the distance from the muffler to the exhaust end the louder... i have a exhause shop around here who does stuff like cut cats off for cash with no recipt... go to flowmastermufflers.com or any other exhaust website and they usually have clips of what mufflers sound like... ask some guys on here who have v6s and see if they can let you listen to a clip and see what u like...its all personal prefrence.... flows dont have very good flow for hp but i love the sound

He has a GT !! V-6's sounds like shit without cats. IMO stay away from flow master A.K.A. choke master .Run true dual with high flow cats V-6

A stock V6 sounds bad imo. However once you get some engine work done, a wilder cam mainly, then you get a nice improvement in sound at WOT.

if the piping from the Y pipe back is the same size it will do NOTHING as a pipe is a pipe. I would go with true duals from the cats back (chop off the Y pipe) with 2.25 inch pipe and be done with it. No need to remove the cats they dont start to become a problem until you are in the 300+hp range.

Kyle has a pypes off road x on his car. There are some vids on here somewhere of his car at WOT and I will be posting one of his car on the dyno with that setup. It sounds great above 3k...below it sounds like it needs work. Check the pics and vid section for a thread about kyles car (his user id is Kyle on here too btw)

thats the only complaint i really have............below 2.5k actually you dont hear enough rumble to drown out the free air flowing through it. so below that you hear the air whooshing through the pipes. only thing i can really do about that is throw the cats on ...............that or maybe some stock mufflers to add more restriction

Have you thought about going back with a chambered muffler to see if it will give more rumble down low? I already know mine is gonna sound airey with the afterburners on there. I may try out my mach 1's with the o/r x to see what they do.

yeah but i dont have the cash to throw up two new mufflers up there. the ones i have right now are a straight-thru design. but that "air-like sound" goes away around 2.5k.............after that it drowns out
try the machs on there, if they sound good i might dump what i have and go with something else

yeah i have a single flowmaster that i got done about a year ago. I didn't look around and wanted something real quick, that I thought would be cheap. So i had a shop weld in a flowmaster and then cut a hole in the pipe after the flow and weld a pipe in going to the other side. So it looks dual, it looks real nice actually. But the thing is when its cold out and the car is smoking, the smoke only comes out of one pipe and that looks dumb. I want it to be louder, i just don't know how to do that. Have you heard mac??
