PCV valve help

So what's a sure fire way of telling if I need to replace my pcv valve?
Trying to cancel out one problem at a time for why i have oil on my plugs.
I thought from a thread a long time ago, someone mentioned that if it makes a noise when you shake it then it's either broken or good. can't really remember

Just swap it out, shouldn't be more than a couple bucks anyhow.

If you shake it and it doesnt rattle its bad but they are ultra cheap so replace it and if you got a whole lot of oil on the plugs think about the rings and blow by

I dont know about the 4.6 but my 95 5.0 has a "oil seperator" screen under it and that was my problem it was gunked up and the dealer was the only place I could find it.
