I'm thinking about converting over to the EMS to do active tuning - just wondering what you guys are running in place of your factory systems and why it's better

I'm just running the factory ECU. Unless you have a very extensively modified set-up (or are desperate for every horse power you can get), the stock ECU with a tune does just fine. If I ever did buy anything aftermarket, it would be a TwEECer though, just because I've heard a lot of good things about them.

hmm...how often does it need to be adjusted? how much does that run you each time?

It should only have to be adjusted if you make a major change in your set-up. I'm not sure what is done to your car, but the stock ECU with no tune is fine for bolt-on parts. Once you get aftermarket heads, cam and intake, it's a good time to start thinking about a tune. I've been running AFR 165 heads, Edelbrock Performer Intake, and a Comp 270HR cam with 30# injectors and a Pro-M MAF for over 2 years (maybe 3 now??? I dunno) and still haven't gotten a tune. The car runs perfectly fine too.
I could make some more power and have a little better streetability with a tune though. I've just never taken the time and money to get one.
A dyno tune will probably cost you between $500-$600. I was quoted $550 at one point.

Aren't the 94/95 computers alittle more pickey? I heard you can only run stock injectors and maf on the factory computer - is that wrong? btw I have a cold air/headers/h/flowmasters and the e303 cam...

That's true. You could always swap to a A9L though.

how does that work? would I have to get rid of all my electronics? I'm just trying to figure out the best/easiest thing to do - I can get the ems for a pretty good price - but I'm sure the a9l is alot cheaper...but how much work is involved?

I could be totally wrong here, because I've never really delt with the 94-95s. However, I was thinking it was just a direct, plug-and-play swap. Maybe someone else can be more help.

if you want to run 24ibs injectors and maf you can put the cobra ecu in your mustang and you will be good to go. OR you can go and get a chip burnt for your set up

AEM EMS?
you either have to own a dyno and know EXACTLY what you are doing or a good buddy that can also do both, or else youre looking into thousands just to get started. EMS isnt plug and play anything, its VERY complicated and you can easily blow the motor. I think a guy from one of my local sites was quoted 2500$ to get EMS up and running and tuned to the current climate in his Evo. of course, as soon as the season changes, he has to go back into the shop for more tuning sessions, or else he runs the risk of leaning out due to cooler weather, or predetonation due to warmer, and so on and so forth.
I would just stick to a chip/dynotune by a local shop.

I think I've decided to go with the tweecer set up - it's more than half the cost and I think it will do for me - thanks guys!

Im a little late, but the A9L swap isnt just plug and play. I have it in my car, a PIH harness is required unless you want to do LOTS of cutting and splicing which would be a PITA. You also need an aftermarket ignition with an a9l swap, fan controller, etc. Its not just a simple plug and play. Id just use the tweecer or go have it tuned on a dyno. I know theres a huge forum dedicated to people tuning their cars with the tweecer, so there is help out there for your tuning needs. Also, the tweecer R/T allows you to datalog and hook a computer up to the car for real time info which is pretty sweet.

sounds just like dsmlink that i used. i would go that route, and hell, you might learn something you didnt know before along the way, then one day you might go with a buddy to get his car dyno'd and you and the tuner will both be on the same level and youre buddy will be like "wtf language are you guys talking in?"
realtime datalogging and acquisition owns.
