Yes Speed rated tires that are Z rated or higher are directional and should be going in one direction.

listen to my sears story....
My brothers got a 3000Gt, so he took it there to get some new tires. Well he gets his car back and when you hit the breaks, the car would get all shaky. So we took it back to sears and they said he needed to get his car aligned. So we did it, still had the problem. Down the road a bit he got a flat, and had to take his rim off the car... well it turns out sears had CROSS THREADED EVERY SINGLE ONE OF HIS LUG NUTS ONTO HIS CAR!!!! so we took the car to sears and they said it wasnt them. So we bitched at them for a while telling them that they were the last people to touch the tires and that it never did it before they started fucking with it. So it eventually came to where we had our lawyer go to sears and talk to these fuckstains about it... and then they finally credited all our money back to the credit card and we took it somewhere else. So moral of story is... screw sears, they suck.

Yeah, the directional tread is directional for a reason. if its backwards the tires cant get rid of water as easily as they should, which could cause you to hydroplane. the car won't ride right with the tread facing the wrong way. bring it back to them and make them fix it. when i mount directional tires, i even double check once i have the wheels back on the car before i take it off of the lift. some people just cant read. or they don't care.

Not all Z rated tires are directional.
Also what has a better rating than Z? Because you siad Z or higher.
Also on a side note, I got bridgestone tires on mine and they are awesome. Much cheaper than other choices and perform great! Not that anyone asked what kind of tires I have, but they are Z rated and are deffinatly not directional.
I looked because I was like "Man, that sucks because directionals are cool."
Anyway, what really sucks is the Vettes because they have 1 tire per wheel. No rotating available. Now that is awesome, expensive, but awesome.

2 one way and 2 the other way sound right to me... 2 for the left side and 2 for the right side. If you look at them all head on at once, they "face" different directions. When installed, they should be pointing the same way.
Check the sidewall for directional arrows and make sure they point forward when installed on the car. If they don't line up right, do slap silly whomever mounted them.

From what I've heard, Sears is his second job. I hear him talking about all those "people" who bring in a Mustang who have treated it like hell... it makes him sad

yea i work there. There are alot of morons that work in these type of shops. Anywhere you go you get good people and sucky people.
Dont matter what it is.
Tire shops all hire people and train them. You just hope to get a more experienced person.
Now about your tires:
Some tires are rotational. 2 will be mounted on the rim 1 way, and the other 2 on the other side of the car will be mounted the other way. Their are arrows on the tires that have to be "pointing" in the way that the tire will travel on the car.
IF they mounted them wrong, go back to sears and they will fix it free and in no time. Trust me they will.
