I have a 1996 v6 mustang lets say completely stock that i rebuilt from a wreck. I got a 302 for it with bad heads. So here is my question, well a couple really. What kind of heads should i look for? And does anyone know the parts that i need to change out to convert to the car to the 302? Thank s for any help i can get on this.

i have no clue if hes still around on the v6 boards but look for a board member called StylinV6 he swapped over to a 302 and such, as for heads first figure out what type of intake your gonna also want cause just doing heads wont be worth all that work

cheapest route would be to find an explorer 302 from say 96-2000 and use the heads, intake and possibly nearly the whole engine. I have a Explorer long block in my 91 and it runs great. You'll have to change out the front assoceries, and oil pan/pickup/oil pump, but its basically straight forward and someone here should be able to help, if not PM me and I will.
good luck
Ben

its alot of trouble, if your doing it as a novice and am interested in learning I say "THE BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!" not because you'll need it but because I think it'll be an excellent learning experience.
however if you just want some V8 POW in your pants, its much cheaper and easier to sell your car and buy V8, even if someone is giving some of the parts to do it with.

yea you have no idea what all it takes until you get into it and realize it wasnt as easy as it seemed lol. Before I did anything I would establish a budget and determine what you can / cant do. Also realize that you WILL run into issues so you will need side money for that as well. Finally, realize that if you half ass things or take short cuts they will come back to bite you in the butt.

I had the 302 tanked, bored 30 over, crank turned, basicly an overhaul. I got new heads, crank(turned .010), pistons, cam (288 @ 460), just stuff like that. I had to get a bellhousing, flywheel. I am now in need to know if i can use my wireing harness if i am putting a 2 barrel carborator on it. But for the computer should i get one from a 5.0 or can i use a GT or can i just use my computer and get a programmer that will have a setting so it will fire all 8 cylinders...? if anyone can help me out with these questions or an suggestions it would be appreciated. I am new at this but the motor was free and the mustang cost me about 1500 bucks. So the cost is actually cheaper then buying a GT. Thank you for your help.

If you are going through all that work I would get the EFI conversion kit from SUMMIT racing. It comes with the harness the computer and the mass air meter that you will need.
