thanks. I just need to get an idea of what the hell is wrong, but I'm almost certain it's the pads. I'm hoping the caliper isn't failing. (only one wheel is acting up, and it has been for a little while)

what symptoms do you have? How many miles on the car? I know a few people (myself included) whose calipers went around 60K miles.

I just replaced my front and rear rotors and pads two days ago. All I did was went up to Autozone and bought their cheapest pads (Duralast). They stop my car.

if one side is wearing faster than the other, your caliper is probably sticking. check you slide pin when you change your pads. it may be sticking. just shoot it with brake cleaner and walk away. after you put it back together though. hopefully that will do the trick. otherwise, replace your caliper. padwise, i have no idea.

for symptoms... since I got the car (with around 70,000 miles on it) the passenger's front brake has produced A LOT of brake dust... easily 10 times what the other wheels did. My car now has 96,000 miles on it, and it sounds like the brake is staying down after I let off the brake... also, you can sort of hear it dragging as I'm driving ... but only very slightly. Am I going to have to replace the caliper also? What about the rotor?

Does your steering wheel shake when you brake?

no, the steering wheel doesn't shake... but that front side shakes just a little. More like the grinding causes it. So is the brake pad just dragging a little? I am scheduling myself some time to change the pads on the 27th. I'll flush the brake fluid at the same time... since I doubt it's been done yet.

brake pads shouldn't "drag". It sounds like it may be the caliper. Does the car seem to pull when you brake?
