Ok you solid rear jockers. If i was to stay with solid rear for the sake most the IRS setups are on the east coast and they dont know what crating/FedEx Freight means, What would i need to get it up to the feel of IRS?
I want a setup that doesnt skip over bumps, squats when i hit it, is more suited for daily driving and twisties and less straight line. i want it to handle very well and be very stiff. Im not much of a suspension guy, which is why a direct IRS swap is easy to me and gets me where i want to feel without much suspension brainwork. I visited Maximum Motorsports but i was like a little kid in a candy store, lots of parts that i have no idea what they do. Keep in mind also, i do have side exit exhaust, which might be an issue.
Solid rear guys, this is your chance to show me, Pimp my Rear End!. Post up links to parts and a description of what they do and set up my rear end. oh and dont forget the rest of the car. its on c-springs now but i need some better shocks (possibly tokico 5way adjustables). keep in mind it CANNOT get any lower, i have enough trouble with the roush kit getting in and out of parking lots and jacking up the car.
btw this will not be another IRS vs SRA thread, it looks like IRS isnt gonna happen so i must work with what ive got.
btw i will be ordering 3.90 or 4.10 gears (whatever they have in stock) and the install kit from american muscle, and i will be taking the rear end off and having it rebuilt.

wow. looks like i have a bit more saving to do.
you think the subframes will have clearance issues with the side exhaust? ill prolly have to take it off and get it re-fabricated post-subframe install.
i think i might fore-go buying a bike come springtime and just buy my buddies next year.

Yeah, I think you'll have to do without the subframes unfortunately... But at least you'll have plenty of clearance for a torque arm if you choose to go with the high-end package. Even if you do go with the Road & Track Box, I'd probably add a torque arm. They make a great deal of difference when combined with the panhard bar. |

Subframes make a big difference, I was wondering if they would clear with the side exhaust. So...do the roush convs not have subframes?

If you get new shocks, don't get the tokico's. The rears are a pain in the ass to adjust because the adjuster is on the top of the shock which means you either have to take the trunk apart to adjust them or cut holes in the liner. KYB AGX shocks are really nice, cost about the same and have the adjuster knobs on the bottom of the shock in the rear so you can easily get at it. The fronts still have the same set up where you hafta stick the screw driver in the top to adjust but those are no problem to get at. |

^^^yeah it was like that on my eclipse too, the rear strut towers had a 3" clearence under the rear quarter panels. i set them at the recommended 4 before installing them, and set the fronts to 3.
does anyone have pics that show where the MM subframes attach and how they look under a car? or does Roush have a subframe connector specifically for the roush to clear the side exhaust?
btw what exactly do the panhard bar and torque arms do?

A panhard bar locates the rear end left-to-right under the car.
A torque arm controls the angle of the rear-end.

hrm, i might go with these:
Rear Grip Package, 1999-04, HD, Standard

Adjustable Rear Swaybar, 7/8" x .120" wall, bolt-in kit
Chassis Brace Package, 1998-04 Mustang HT, GT
and then later on do MM springs and a strut/shock combo.
if i get the full length subframes in bare metal, can they be modified to clear side exhaust if need be, or will they basically lose their strength and become useless if touched?

Your exhaust pipes hang right where the SFC's need to go. You cant do subframes, dont waste your money... or do, then sell them to me at a cheaper price after you realize you cant install them.

zim, if i do decide to get the package i linked with the "Standard Length" ones, ill let you have them for cheap. i might just get the roush ones if the standard dont fit. remember, while i do have a side exhaust setup, its routed a wee bit differently than an actual roush. me and the guy at the exhaust shop tried to get the best possible fitment with the least amount of bends. unless the subframes connect to where the tips go, it might be different. im 95% sure zim is right and it wont fit, but who knows, 5% might be in my favor!

When you do, I would seriously consider going with Bilsteins. I love them on my '90. There's no need for adjustability when the manufacturer gets the perfect combination of handling and comfort to begin with.
Also, on second thought you have to have subframes to use the torque arm. The torque arm actually bolts to the subframes. Hopefully you can still get away with the special side exhaust subframes, but you may want to give MM a call to be sure.

yeah i was looking at the bilsteins too. I have 2300 in the bank now and i will probably wait till i have 3500 till i start ordering anything so i have room for the gears+install kit and however much its gonna cost to rebuild the rear end itself to rid myself of that godforsaken moan.
