I need tires badly. Fronts have 10% left and are cracking, rears have maybe 30% left and are having trouble keeping traction in cold dry conditions, let alone wet ones (which is fun most the time
Im going with 18x9 Anthracite FR500's up front with 18x10 Anthracite FR500's out back, but im curious as to which brands of tires are recommended. Id like to have a good set out back with decent up front. preferrably ones out back with more emphasis on performance than longevity, and up front id like them to last longer but still be a good performer if possible.
I was thinking Toyo or Sumitomo out back with a Khumo or such up front. anyone have any input? prolly do a 275/35r18 up front and a 295 or 305/35 out back.

i don't know if they even make the size you need, but, i have Barum Bavuris tires on mine. they are a german made tire that discount sells. damn good traction and very little road noise. so far i am extremely impressed.

I have BfGoodrich Sports all the way around on my car. Great traction in both wet and dry as far as handling. As with any street tire they'll turn over, but they hook well for a street tire and the price isn't bad at all.
They have a tendency to hydroplane some on standing water, but I don't know of a 275 that doesn't have that tendency. I drove through a hard rain last weekend for 2 hours, as long as I stayed out of the standing water on the road it was fine, even when in standing water you have enough control to correct.
Fairly predictable as far as the limits, you can definitely tell before they let completely loose.

Nitto 555's would be a great choice too. In the size you would be looking for they run about 200-225 each...the reason I decided not to go 18s....

ok so after we finally get my buddies wrx clutch in from 4 months of it being on backorder (cause only one company makes clutches for 06 wrx), we went for a ride through the valley, up mountains, freeway, to get it broken in. he has KDW2's all around and wow, they were very grippey.
so FR500's were ordered and KDW2's all around. 275/35r18 up front and 295/35r18 out back ran me around 1600$.

Rims came in today via the brown van, and i had them mounted/balanced at Sears since everyone else was closed and i was ancy to do something with shiny new rims and fresh tires sitting in my garage. the guy was pretty funny though "holy shit! a 295 on a stang? will that even fit?" i was like "dude, easily, thats only a 10" wide wheel, the norm is usually a 10.5" wide with 305 or 315's, and can prolly fit a 11" wide with the proper backspacing"
Sadly, the spinner center caps are incompatible with the FR500 rims. the aluminum spacer isnt deep enough for the spinner spokes to even come close to clearing the wheel spokes, the spacer would need to be at least 1" longer for the spinners to be able to attach and have any sort of clearance, let alone sit where they should. the center cap of the FR500 wheel is just too deeply inset between the wheel spokes for the spinner to clear. im gonna call American Muscle tommorow and ask them if im just retarded or what.
and yes, you only get one full view teaser pic. saturday its full detail day, two PorterCable's will be on-hand, lots of assorted pads, polishes, sealers and waxes will be available and an entire two-car garage with more than adequate lighting to help aide in getting the most swirl-less and glossy/shiny paint possible. Pics will come afterwards hopefully.
btw the teaser pic shows how shiny my paint job really is. Even though i talk shit about it left and right, its still pretty dam good in 97% of the exterior, im just totally anal about that 3%. were hoping saturdays detail day might be able to save those areas though, youd be surprised what some SSR2.5 and a PorterCable can do to a paintjob.
oh and some guy wants my stock bullitts for 160ish, which is why i posted the pics up. free money FTW, i think it will go to the catless X pipe fund.
