I got 91k on my car automatic 3.9l and has never given trouble until now. I recently made a trip from CA to TX 1,800 miles each way. 200miles into the trip I noticed the car beginning to hesitate when I accelerate. It only does it when I accelerate. I thought it maybe the fuel filter so I changed it and it keeps on jerking. The problem is consistent and I'm afraid of developing something more serious. A friend thought it maybe my catalyst converter that was plugged. I'd like to avoid trying to guess at what it is. The engine light hasnt turned on so I'm pretty sure the mechanics w/ code readers would get nothing. Any ideas what it can be.

When was the last time it had a good tune? By changing the plugs and or wires? That could cause hesitation. Also get some fuel injector cleaner and add it to your gas.

Mine did something like that but only when i got in the higher rpms.. it ended up being my fuel pump..

I think it might be a tune but if you got MAF it could be a issue there as well or even TPS I would run some carbon cleaner into it and then tune it up. |

you can clean the maf pretty easy that might help.

I will clean out my air filter before doing anything else. I got the K/N and it's been about a year since I cleaned and I know its real dirty. I changed plugs at 80k but haven't changed wires yet.

There's a lot of things it could be: plugs, wires, fuel pump, coil pack, MAF, etc.
I've noticed that the coil pack seems to be a pretty common problem around 100k miles on the 99-04 V6s though. I would recommend you do a complete tune up, because it probably needs it anyway, and you can work from there. |

I went through something that sounds very similar to what you have. It ended up throwing code P0190 on several occasions. Changed my fuel pump/regulator/sending unit/fuel rail pressure sensor and fixed the problem. Can't tell you exactly what part it was, but one of those fixed it lol
