87-93 shock questions

well my question is about the quad shocks I bought a set of chrome cobra r wheels and they rubbed my quads so I took them off will this hurt anything or is this something you guys are doing thats what the guys at the wheel shop said they had done to theres anyway

They are not necessary, especially with a decent set of LCAs.

turn them around, it'll fit just fine with a real 9" ford cobra R rim

that makes no sense I had to take the quads off for clearance to get the cobra r wheels on there I dont see how turning them around will make any difference there was atleast a 1 1/2-2" that I needed clearance the quads are the ones that are bolted near the gas tank and to the rear axle correct

and these are aftermarket cobra r wheels I am wondering if they gave me the wrong backspacing now on the rear wheels

I have 8 inch wheels on the back of mine and they barely fit. My tires measure 9.7 inches. I don't think they would fit if they were another .1 inch.

I run quads with my 9" cobra R's

they are turned around, they fit fine, but once again you have to use ford motorsports part quads to do it.

they have a thick part and a skinny part, the skinny part passes by the rim whenever it is turned around hence the added clearence..

if you have aftermarket shocks then this wont work, if you have aftermarket shocks then as bbunt said you'd be better of leaving them off and getting a high quality lower control arm as the quad only assists in wheel hop and the lower control arm will do that same thing.

if I could find a picture I would show you but I couldn't find one and my car is in another city ATM
most cars I see the owners replace all of the shocks and struts and leave the fatory quad's for the purposes of fitting the big rims.

ok thats why then it has the kyg shocks on it that was why I said turning it around is not going to help. so I took them off I guess I nedd to get a set of LCA's now or replace the oem quads

Hey Cowboy!
When I added 10" Cobra R wheels at the rear of my 1992 GT, the quads went in the trash. I do have UCA and LCA's on the car. With slicks it will 60' a 1.59-1.60 with no problem. On the street, with M/T Drag Radials it just hooks up and goes.

Another vote for some simple rear suspension upgrades. Do the control arms and lose the quads.
