you might could JB weld the piston back together perhaps add a bit of shreadded cardboard to strengthen it up, should be fine.

Actually, if you read his story in another thread, that's pretty much what happened. Atleast that's what it sounds like to me.

Umm NO, the crank was just fine, plus all the other pistons had exhaust valve grooves in the pistons, so shit was hitting

Ok, heres the whole story, I had my mechanic build me up a 347 stroker with CHP street fighter kit, with about 10:4:1 comp, this thing moved well and was backed up witha PA C4, coan 3000 stall. Anyhow, I brought it up for a tune, and I was told I should get a custom grind cam to maximize performance alright cool! At this time the motor had roughly 8,000 miles on it, which of course where hard miles. So I got a custom grind, and CHP said my pistons can handle .640 lift and no more, the most I had was .580 lift. Well my mechanic was really busy in the shop, and I didnt have all the tools but my friend did, (he built his own 289 motor) he said why wait we can do it.......I was hesitate but I really wanted this new cam put in. So it was installed, brought it back up for a re-tune the rwhp ratings didnt change but this thing felt totally different, and very mean, best times in the 1/8 where 7.3's @94.88mph witha 1.59 60ft launching at idle! Motor had a few hundred miles on it with new cam, before she gave way at the track, it didnt even make a huge mess just a bunch of smoke. My friend claims piston/valve clearance was fine, but his way of checking was turning motor over by hand and looking through the spark plug hole, everything else on the bottom end held together, and this was cycl number 4 tore out the whole cycl wall

That is precisely why you measure piston to valve clearance every time, regardless of what anyone says.

Yes looking through the spark plug hole def will not work we use clay on top of the piston and bolt the head on and turn it over and pull the head back off and caliper the depth left on the clay and add for heat expansion od the valves and piston

For like the third time, pretty much the valve hit this piston and all hell broke loose.
