I just rebuilt the engine and 3 speed tranny in my '66 Mustang and reinstalled in the car. When I start to take off the clutch chatters a lot while starting to move then it stops. Is there another adjustment beside the in/out adjustment for the fork below?
Thanks,
Mike

Did you spray the pressure plate contact area and clutch disk with brake cleaner before you installed it? It could be slipping.

I had it resurfaced and added a new ring gear. Good I think we are honing on an answer to the chatter.
Thanks,
Mike

I'd say, do a couple of good burnouts, heat up the friction material. If it doesn't go away it's possible the disc got contaminated or improper cute on the flywheel. IMO

Do you have a problem with a person answering a question even though the thread is somewhat old. Are you a mod, if not I don't think it's up to you what and who i post too! With the person physically driving the vehicle already i would assume they went through any break in procedures. I did not say to forgo any break in, or do you just like reading into things?
There are only a few reasons a clutch will chatter. contamination, machine surface irregularities, improper installation. Any or all will render any break in obsolete.

I think we already had that part covered. Sorry, I didn't mean to be too harsh. Sometimes we have a lot of trolls coming through here just posting on really old threads and I just give the mods a helping hand at keeping the site cleaned up. Again, I apologize for labeling you. Welcome ME and enjoy your stay .

Troll i am not, Lifetime Ford man with at least seven plus mustangs under my belt. Professional engine builder. Owned three auto exhaust shops. Pit crewed for one top fuel and two Jr fuel teams in and out for 15 years. I think i have plenty to add to the subject, you think chatter is a problem with one disk try five and try to hold five thousand horses back.
Apology accepted, didn't mean to cause a ruckus.

Hell, go post up an intro in the intro section at the top of the page. I bet your experience will be much appreciated around here.

I may just do that. I was talkin to Brent through PM's this mournin about another site and we got to talkin about my 69. Made me want to be more active here. Joined last year but hadn't posted much. I guess i was a troll in that instance but i'm planing on changing it. Might be resurrecting the old stang soon too.

Fastback or Coupe? Ran into a guy last night that had a 66 and a 69 coupe. Both had 302's in them.
