I want to find some pics and video's that I took of my car from a couple years ago. They've been erased for a while but does anyone know if it's possible to try and find them again?
I've done searches for hours on my laptop trying to find them but no luck.
I was under the impression that nothing gets fully erased off your computers.

lol no they're not in the recycle bin. I've done searches where i tell the comp to bring up any file ending in jpg or bmp or avi. I guess they're lost forever then. wish i knew some hackers

If they have been gone for awhile you probably lost them as the harddrive has probably written over the sector that held them.

when you delete something it basically is still right there untouched, you just tell your computer that it is ok to write over the memory that the file was using. Over time its probably been written over~ so its gone. Even if it hasnt been its not easy to find that information again.

They may or may not still be there. Your computer does not actually remove anything like Spec said. It just deallocates the memory. It doesn't go through the trouble of setting every single bit back to zero or anything of that nature.
If you're lucky, that space hasn't been allocated for anything else and the files can still be recovered. Programs that are capable of doing this are usually pretty damn expensive though.
