So I got a new laptop... I'll probably put up some specs and pics of it tomorrow. However, it doesn't have an operating system on it. I have both XP and Vista. What should go on it?
I'm just afraid Vista and compatability issues with some of my games/software and maybe performance?

XP
wait till vista gets the bugs worked out and all the hardware manufacturers have drivers for them or Vista has drivers that support them.
all 3 of my buddies tried out vista about 2 months ago and all had issues. Vista had no nvidia card support at the time, it would block daemon tools and alcohol 120, and the pretty menu's only work if you have the hardware to run it, vista will turn it off if it feels the memory is getting low to help performance, which was the issue one had with running it on his laptop, even though he had 1.5gb ram and a 7900GT it still swapped between settings like every 5 minutes.
that was a few months ago though, so it may have changed with whatever version they have out now. is the full version even released yet? i think they had like RHC2 or RCH2 or whatever they call it.

I'm saying XP because I really don't know anything at all about Vista.

I'm using Vista right now. It's a beta version (obviously)
I got it setup on a Raid 0 using the 64bit OS version. It's awesome. Driver support isn't there yet but it will be when it leaves Beta on Feb 1. I vote Vista still. It is so much better than XP. If you play games install XP for now. Then when Vista comes out for everyone get it and use it.
IE7 is awesome as well. May just use this instead of Firefox from now on.

you shouldn't make any rash decisions while you are puking your brains out. Sounds like the fever hasn't subsided. Go back to sleep.

Well so far Vista is awesome. I have FarCry and Fear running on Vista RTM (I have the build that will be released Jan 30 afterall) and it runs great. So I don't see any reason to stick with XP. I got nVidia drivers to work. Had to use the UK version. Something wrong with nvidias US version it won't install. Either way the games work fine. I enjoy it. Plus if you want to play any of the DirectX10 games to their best you HAVE to have Vista as DirectX10 won't be ported back to XP.

yeah, im actually on it right now running the 64 bit vista ultimate. one of my friends talked me into it. he told me how all the vista problems are blown way out of proportion... he is kinda right too.
at first i regretted it because i had to find drivers for some of the stuff, but now im glad i chose vista. i actually had xp in the drive at one point thinking about formatting it but i gave it another chance and stuck with it. its pretty slick... and in combination with the new AIM i feel like i never used a computer before haha.
so far no major problems.. i havent tried any games yet... so far i just got the latest drivers, aim, spybot, daemon tools, etc.
if it wasnt for a girl im currently talkin to id probably have company of heroes up and running.
