what is the trick to turn off that light, is something whith the battery but im not sure

take the negative cable off for about 30 secs and put it back on..should reset it...someone correct me if im wrong

Give it a few minutes and it will go off. When you start driving again the car will go through it's checks and turn the light back on for the same problem as before if it wasn't fixed. Usually its a 3 cycle test meaning it has to fail the computers check 3 times before it turns the light back on.

remove the neg terminal from the battery tap the brake a few times and let it sit for like a few minutes. it will be off but if there is an issue it will come back on.

Its how your cars puter is set up OBDII I feel is much better than OBDI cause you can get more accurate readings and most of the scan ports are easier to get to.In 96 all manufactures had to switch from I to II it for emissions controls pretty much.
