well with unsuccessful attempts to ask over at rustangworld and getting -------------take out the windsheild or yank real hard comments......ill try here.
how do you remove the rearview mirror from the windsheild the correct, safe, human way? its not mounted the same as others i have seen which have a bolt in them.
thanks!

there is a small spatula type tool with shape edges that will get under it and just tap it with a small hammer

well, mine comes off really easily. just drive for a while and it moves itself loose. POS isnt glued to the button anymore.
anyway, best advice would be to use a small hammer and a screw driver. just put it b/w the button and the mirror and slowly tap. it should break the seal and then it will slide right off

I think he was talking about removing the mirror from the button. Is it a phillips, allen or torx fastner

You should buy a haynes manual. It tells you how to remove all the little things like that.

I am strangely drawn to your avatar. Would make a nice updated mascot for Wal-Mart.

By day she's a greeter, but by night, sexy sixty-five year old Mildred is a dangerous dancer at a local tavern...slip a dollar in her bikini and watch her swing...like pendulums on a clock.
"Hey, man, she's not that bad with the lights turned down!"
"Dang, dude, you thought she had four arms! Those ain't arms!"
"Man! She just got my foot with one of 'em!"
"AAAAAIIIIIIIIII! Run!!!"

to remove the rearview mirror you need to take the mirror face and push it down and then gently apply pressure to it in order to pop the mount loose. all it is held on with is a clip that secures it to the window wedge.

The easiest way to take it off is take off all your moulding on the outside of your windshield. Get a little windshield tool that looks like it's made to rip your nuts off. Cut all the sealant around the windshield. Lay a nice padded something on your hood. Sit down in your driver's seat and kick the ever loving fool out of your windshield. Wait....that's what I do to your car when you bring it in to get a new windshield. Fun as all get out. Sit down in Mercedes, put feet on dash, kick the crap out of windshield. So much fun. But seriously, to take the mirror off without taking the tab off (for whatever strange reason you may have for this) look and see what kind you have. Some have a screw holding it on, others take a good whack from a hammer and flat screwdriver. Depending on what you have, try it and keep tryin it until you get it right lol. If you need any help, PM me or something and i'll answer you when i get in.
