Hi there ! I have a friend of mine who has a 95 V6 Mustang with a dead engine. We found and bought a new V6 3.8 out of a 2000 Mustang including the wiring harness up to the firewall. Can we just stick this engine in w/o any changes or do we need to go back and get the 2000 computer.
Thanks,
Alan

Yes you will need to go and get the 2000 computer. There are a couple of other things you will have to modify or change as well the EGR on the 2000 will be on the front of the motor not the back. DId you get the coil pack and all wiring it has diff injectors, fule rails, a returnless type fule system as yours has a return style, intakes, heads you will have to modify vacum lines. Its not just a plug and play swap. Hope this helps

The bottom end should be exactly the same. I don't claim to be an expert on the 3.8, but I believe the bottom end as well as the heads are all interchangeable.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong. And mark it on your calendars.

If you put in the 2000 engine you will have to change the fuel system in the 1995 to returnless. What is dead about the 95 engine? If it is the bottom end you can use the 2000 bottom end and put the 95 top end on it and that will work.

Thanks guys, we're going to do it as a complete engine swap and then follow the split rail swap to get the wiring right. Use the 95 exhaust manifolds and plumb in a return line for the fuel rail. Sure is a LOT simpler to work on my 66 !!!!

There is lots of bad info in this thread.
I have done this swap before.
Use the 99+ heads and intakes, you will get a lot more power. The 99+ engine is rated at 190, vs the 94-98s 145 and 150hp.
Keep your return style fuel system and stock computer, it will not be easy to convert to returnless or swap in a 99+ computer.
Use your original wiring harness and extend it as necessary.
Add a regulator and return line to the 99+ fuel rail.
Swap the whole engine in, everything pretty much bolts up. You need a 99+ cai or 99+ rubber intake tube.

Update - We got it going. Spliced in a return rail to the tank from the rear of the 2000 rail and used the original regulator. Kept the stock injectors and mass air for now and using the 95 computer. Wiring wasn't too bad at all after unwrapping the loom. Only had to extend a couple of wires, I then rewrapped the whole thing so it looks factory. Still need to find a way to get the temperature sensor located but, the engine sounds very healthy. We used the 95 exhaust manifolds and cam sensor. Cut and welded the 95 throttle arm to the 2000 unit. Everyone suggestions and the split rail threads were a great source of info. Thanks for all the help !!! Any ideas on the temp sensor location would be appreciated.
