Using OVERDRIVE

Hi i just bought a mustang its my first car i was wondering if driving in Overdrive will make u go faster and if its sort of like SPort mode or if its just for going up and down hills also wat gear 1 2 and 3 are for i have AUTO Transmission on my 07 V6 Coupe Mustang thx Jared P

overdrive just lets it shift one gear higher... its not sport mode. Just leave it on, theres really no reason to turn it off unless you're climbing a hill where it will downshift and upshift every couple seconds.

1 2, and 3 are just what they appear as.... 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear.

So i would never really use 1 2 and 3rd gear unless like i wana slow down going downhill id put it in gear 1

i wouldnt go down to 1st gear unless you're not going fast at all...

basically, if you wanna shift your car you should have gone with a standard transmission. Let the auto do its job and shift the car for you, dont worry about all the gears on it.

Yeah, you have to disable o/d for it to not be engaged. Default setting is "on".

definitly dont try to manually downshift your auto. i tried it with mine and she didnt like it very much. learned from experience. oh yea, ehh, i dont want to give you any racing tips just yet....learn to know your car inside and out b4 you try to take on any of your local rice....btw, how old are ya jared?

welcome Jared, your going to really mess up your transmission if you decide to manually downshift it. Definately listen to MAXIMUS on that one get to know your car.

WEll for 1 second i tried using the manual transmission adn now my car seems not as smooth as driving my bros. and it seems louder but not as fast idk if its messed up or in my head lol

were they birthday presents for you and your bro? thats pretty sweet if it was. and zim is right, its just in your head. i rly wouldnt do it again if i were you. and i know your gunna wanna show off to your friends, i know i did when i had my stang and was your age, so before you try racin and all that other "cool" stuff, get to know what your car can handle and what you can handle b4 you try anything.

Welcome...and for future reference, overdrive is a cruising gear. It lets the car lower the RPMs to save gas when cruising down the highway.

As was stated already, don't worry about shifting your car. Like Ron Popiel says, you Put it in D and "Set it and forget it". Your car's computer can shift better than you could trying to manually shift it.

the 1, 2, and 3 gears are for special situations like when you are stuck in the snow or mud. It just makes it so that the car doesn't go any higher gear than the number displayed. You wouldn't want it to get all the way to 4th gear where you could be spinning your tires 100 mph when you are stuck in the mud...would do no good. It is at that time you would put the car in 1 or 2 to keep the wheel speed down in hopes of getting traction.

Hopefully that helps give a little more definition to what the numbers and OD mean.

No LOL i got a black on black v6 coupe with Leather Seats and Interior Upgrade Package and Pony package and he got a Silver on black leather v6 coupe with Pony and Interior upgrade package and his has a black stripe on the side mine is while so Basically there the same but diff colors
