FM modulators suck, if your gonna do it, at least have it hardwired of some sort.
Would i recommend it to the average person, Yes
to an audiophile, NO
i would honestly save up and get a head unit that has an ipod interface in it too or is at least capable

do they make a hardwire adapter for the stock Mach 460 head unit? if not, i'll have to wait to get a compatible head unit.

that is cool using all those different parts but i am sure there is a kit that is made by someone out there that is just a plug and play connection that does not require wiring cutting and splicing because that gets very technical sometimes.... but that is a very good alternative to a new head unit that would cost you 300+

okay so i took your advise and checked out some decks to replace the factory one. but now i'm being told that in order to replace the deck, i have to replace the entire system because it's a Mach 460. is this true? and if so, wtf was ford thinking?

There is a friggin harness you use to hook an aftermarket unit up to the 460 system. I have hooked up countless of these and know people who have aftermarket head units on the 460 with no problems.
A shop that tells you that needs a swift kick in the nuts and none of your money.

If you'll look at the thread I linked over, there is a link to the piece you will need. Really nothing to it on a mustang, it all bolts into place.

Actually, I do have experience with that thing... and its badass.
If you have somewhere to put the little screen it'll make it a very clean install. Thats not the traditional FM modulator where it broadcasts it through the air. You actually plug your antenna plug into a little box that then runs to that tuner deal, as well as straight into your head unit. Theres no airwaves, its basically just a direct line but you use a radio station. My brother got that thing for his 350z, put the little screen in the area where the navigation system would have gone if he had that option, and it works great. Ill push that product, it works really well.

that's not the first time i've heard that. i am just afraid that i would get too much static. but if you've personally used it, then i might give it a shot. is it something that can be installed by me or should i get it professionally done? B.B. wants to charge 70 bucks to do it. i can buy the set and interface for 130.00. what do you suggest?

Personally Id do it myself... its a matter of connecting it to a power source, ground, and putting that antenna wire into the little adapter thing. The rest is just running other small wires. Its up to you, thats stuff that I like to do, so I'd tackle the job myself and save my ass 70 bucks

i'm not that good at it. i'm sure i could attach the thing, but the routing the wiring is not my strong suit.
