i have a 2001 v6 with eibach springs, 4 wheels american racing 17 x 9.5( bullit replica), and tires 285/40/17 in the banck and 245/40/17 front

i'm planning put a cobra 2003 wheels in it(17 x 9) can i use the same size of the tires that i m running right now???

personally, i think with a 17x9 wheel, you should have a MINIMUM of 255 on the front, if not more. 275 would probably be ideal.

i have 275/40/17 in the back on mine (17x9 steeda ultralites I) and 255/40/17 in the back and have had no problems from them, but i would not go any smaller than 255...honestly i should have gone 275 up front as well and just got spacers

cause the smaller the tire, the more likely you are going to get some major curb rash on your wheels, if you want any sort of protection for them, expecially a 9.5 wide wheel, get some 275s on them and keep them nice

No. Thats too skinny. Go with a 275/40-17 and you should be good.

i was sayin that was a minimum, but like zim said, 275 is the best to go

If you're getting the cobra wheels, just get the same size for all 4 tires that way you can still rotate them. And no, a 275 wide tire is not the same as a 245 (if thats what you're asking... hard to understand)

right now i have americang racing wheels, is like a bullit wheels but 17 x 9.5, i like the cobra wheels but i saw some pics of the cobra and go to the garage to saw my wheels, and i stay with the americang racing, for now..

i like the way it looks with a bigger tires in the back(285), front (245)

but.. this wheels (17 x 9.5) rub in the anti roll bar when a take a curve in 180 , (U)

i noticed that the tire 285 is wider than the wheel, the 245 is the same,

the question
if i put 275 in the front the rubbing still the same or can make a major rub issues

pd rub only when i take a curve in 180 degrees , just when i rotate the steering wheel all thw way

Yeah you'll have the rubbing with wider tires, just dont go into full lock and you'll be ok. You could do like a 295 on the rear if you wanted and get that staggered look.

what the differnce between a 285 /40 /17 and 245 /45/17,

my question is because i saw a mustang with 285 40 17 in the back and a 245 45 17 in the front an looks like the same size

I will try to explain how to read tire sizes to you, but it may be hard to understand it over the internet.

Take a 275/40/17 tire for example. The first number (275) represents how wide the tire is in Millimeters, so a 275/40/17 tire is 275 Millimeters wide. The second number on a 275/40/17 tire (40) represents the height of the sidewall on the tire, but its does not mean that the sidewall is 40 Millimeters tall, it is the percentage of the wideth of the tire, so a 275/40/17 tires sidewall thickness is 40% of 275 in Millimeters. (You will have to do the math to find the exact #) The third number of course represents the size/diameter of the rim in inches that the tire is made to fit on.

I'm pretty sure this formula applies to all street tire, but not to drag or offroad tires. Somebody corect me if I'm wrong.

BTW you do not want to put a 245/45/17 on a 9.5" wide wheel. I miss read what you wrote, and thought you were asking if a 275/45/17 tire would fit on a 9.5" wide wheel.

Because the wheel is 9.5 inches wide, a 245 tire is 9.653 inches wide. Therefore you will have .153 inches of tire over the wheels (if the tires are even an actual 245 mm) and divide this by two because of two sides to a tire and you have .0765 inches of tire to protect your wheels from a curb or anything else that might get close to the wheel. To give you a better view of this, that's about the thickness of a penny of protection for the wheel.
To me and 99% of the people who spend money on wheels, that is not near enough protection for a wheel, especially considering how much money it will cost to fix a wheel that has curb rash or a chunk taken out of it because of a curb or anything else in the roadway.
Me personally, I'm running a 275 width tire on my 18x9 wheels. This gives me approximately a 10.862 inch tire, giving me .931 inches of protection on the tire to protect against the wheel hitting something or anything causing damage to it.

It's all a matter of what you think is more important though. Would you rather save a little money and get a smaller, cheaper tire and the risk the fact that you could damage the wheel causing several hundred dollars to either repair the wheel or buy a new one.

My wheels are 18x9, and I am running the 275/35-18 inch tires.

If I turn the steering wheel all the way, depending on the angle of the ground around me, sometimes it slightly rubs. I've noticed it doesn't do this all the time however. I'll have to check my sway bar sometime soon, since that's where they usually are rubbing.
