If you keep going until they show his buddy's camera you can see its out but tangled up. It had enough air resistance to slow him down to 80... but 80-0 isn't fun I bet.

well a falling object accellerates at a rate of 32 feet per second per second. so every second it accelerates another 32 feet per second faster until it reaches its terminal velocity, and depending on drag, wind deflection, aerodynamics, humans have a terminal velocity of around 135mph. skydivers spread eagle to create drag and slow down, or get as straight as can be vertical to the earth to speed up.

if his chute (i havent watched the vid yet!) failed to open correctly but created enough drag, it is very possible (and in his scenario) to survive, especially if he landed legs first, curled over and rolled to let his legs and the rolling motion to disperse the energy. plus landing on bushes and trees help too.
