Just had it dropped off tonight. It was my boss' bike for the past few years, he just got a brand new Buell last month, so my buddy bought it off him. well my buddy just came into a good chunk of money, and wants to get a even better bike (hes looking at a 939 i think), so i was like "eh, ill take the bike", 1000$ later im the owner of a 1995 Kawasaki Ninja EX-500, with a mere 7k on the odometer (or 13k depending on which one is really the odometer). Ive only ridden bikes a few times, so i wasnt about to drive it all across the city from my house to his with the only bike experience being riding his FZR around my neighborhood a few times to troubleshoot a clutch problem.
me and my buddy did the rear chin delete and added in the smaller turn signals and plate bracket. the front lower fairing (not shown on bike) is actually an aftermarket piece, the real faring covers half the amount as the one i have, and the one i have is a rare piece in itself, worth around 400$, but it makes the bike look so much more badass with it so ill be putting it on later, since its an aftermarket piece the attachment points where ghetto-rigged by my boss (held in by pushpins and wireties) so im going to make some brackets and really mount that sucker on there. I got a set of tires too, theyre basically DOT approved slicks, they have like no tread on them, so ill prolly wait until its warmer to install them on a seperate set of rims, which will be powdercoated a subtle dark bronze. ill prolly take most the stuff off the frame and clean everything up a bit as well.
now tonight im going to buy shitloads of gear, a HJC helmet and probably either a nice Joe Rocket or Alpinestar jacket, and some sweet gloves from CycleGear.

yeah, im more of an acceleration freak. top speed i could care less about. its kinda hard, like the fastest ive gone on a bike was 35mph, and i was pretty shaken, same with a jet-ski (we rent bombardiers up in bass lake in summer) but once youre on it for a bit you get used to it. luckily for me i have miles of empty country road to practice on before i take it on surface streets. itll be just like when i learnt how to drive, daddy just took me to the countryside and said "figure it out".
Ive had dreams about being on a bike for a long time now, in the dreams its actually a blue and silver R6 and im decked out in a full suit thats also bule and silver, in a awesome custom painted Shoei helmet. but i know that before getting on a bike like a R6 you need to learn on something less powerful and more forgiving for awhile. its just like the reason you dont give your first son a 454 chevelle, cause it wont last long, you give him something decroted and crappy and he learns to respect that, and then you let him move on.
besides, there is the saying "there are two types of riders, ones who have fallen, and ones who will fall". if you know that and still get on the bike, and wear the proper equipment, and always prepare for the person who does not see you, then you will always be a step ahead of the rider that jumps on a brand new bike in jeans and a t-shirt and no helmet.

Nice, that'll come in handy with these fucking gas prices right now.
I actually had a dream that I was given a bike sorta like that, but all yellow.
and I agree, accel for the win.

lol you would cry if i wasnt around for the IRS vs Solid Rear arguments or GT500 vs Cobra arguments.
lol no, i wont ride it until all my gear is in, the bike is insured and title is transferred. plus we have a storm rolling in the weekend so i probably wont get to ride it for a bit.

Nice bike! Soon as it warms up I'll get some pics of me and mine. I love 'em. I won't drive highways with it though. I can't stand how other people drive around motorcycles. It's like they've got a free pass to be idiots or something. I have a gixxer 750. I've got a pink ICON helmit I'll be ordering soon too.
