I would buy some rubbing compound (3m perfect it II clear coat safe, dont buy any other kind) and pick up a clay bar (meguiars makes one) and finally pick up some dawn detergent and what ever form of wax/polish/etc you like
Wash the car with dawn twice and dry then rubbing compound every inch of the car two really good times (ELBOW GREESE!) then after that dawn the car again (dont have to dry this time) and then clar bar the entire car good.
After this dry 100% and put on the wax/protectant/other
If you notice swirl marks before the wax/protecting/other still you can compound/clay bar again~ just dont do it to much if you can help it.

your not going to be able to remove deep swirls without a machine, I use a porter cable 7424 and optimum compounds along with SSR1 followed by glaze/wax ect.

a clay kit ISNT gonna remove swirl marks
all depends how bad they are really sometimes you might have to re cut and buff and then rebuff it all using rubbing compound and glaze

yup for very bad swirls you will need more than elbow greese, best to give it a try and then go from there, always use the least abrasive road up to the most abrasive.

I knew a clay kit wouldn't remove them but i was saying that that is a decent clay kit for the price, but i agreeed with spectorV that you needed a polishing compound

the caly is meant to be used before polishing to help you produce a smoother surface for applying the polish/glaze/wax
i would recommend getting a porter cable (if you can afford it) and a good set of different grade pads for it... then start with a slightly abrasive polish and if that doesnt work move to a little more abrasive one till you find the one that removes them, then work your way back up and finish with some turle wax ICE synthetic polish, a good glaze(gives you an awesome shine under wax), then finish with a couple layers of gold glass wax from meguiars...
that is just my $0.02 of info but if you cant afford the porter cable, you can do all that by hand but it will take alot longer... so i guess do whatever you have to, to get the job done

Yeah trying to remove swirl marks by hand is a bitch, just try getting a buffer of any type really it'll save your arms for later.
BTW personally Ive always used 3m products after painting a car, I just dont trust no other brand when it comes to cutting and buffing

you know i have never used any 3m products... where do you buy them? can you get them from autozone or walmart or any other parts house? or do you have to order them? i have always used meguiars and mothers... gold glass wax is the best you can get for the money but zanos is way better (if you can afford that price for some wax)

esp the dark glaze they have one of my favorites personally

they auto body supplier we have around my town would be the NAPA store and they do not stock a whole lot of stuff... i guess i could ask them to see if they can order it for me... ill have to try it when i am out of gold glass cause i just bought a new bottle the other day... oh and BTW if you buy a clay kit... spend the little extra money and get the meguiars kit... it comes with a huge microfiber cloth, a sample of cleaner wax, plus 2 bars of clay, and detail spray... it might cost 18.99 plus tax but it is worth it

I dont like waxing it is to messy and most neglect the headlights, trim, rims, tires, inner fenders, under side, engine bay, etc and it gets everywhere if you arent careful
I dont think I ever waxed my 01 mustang.

this is why you spend a minute taping those areas off
BTW werent you the one that linked up some washless products?
Really theres no autobody or auto paint places in your area? Id search the yellowpages cause these places are typically small stores

I picked up a HUGE bottle of 3M clear coat safe rubbing compound and that stuff was awsome and didnt cost to much. I got a smaller bottle at autozone not to long ago for like 6 bucks.
