Hello all,
I have a '99 gt with 17X8 cobra rims. I am looking to put some new tires on and was wondering if anyone can recommend any? I drive the car mostly on weekends but might switch it to the daily driver. Something that will give me performance and will stick would be great. Thank you for your help.

As far as what tires to go with, are you wanting something for performance in straight applications or more of a well-rounded tire for handling as well?

Well, you are going to get a ton of recommendations from this site. I run BF Goodrich G-Force Sports on my car. They're a little cheaper than the rest of the tires, and do everything I want them to. I haven't hit the track with them yet, but they were a huge improvement over the Toyo's I previously had on the car. Going from a 225 width tire to a 275 width tire helped that tremendously as well.
I chose my tire from reading reviews on tirerack.com and from talking to some local friends.

for a 17x8 go wit ha 245/45/17 or a 255/45/27 I would look into yokahoma avs es100's they are not super expensive and they are a nice tire all around~ they also seem to last good if you take care of them.

Im running Hankook Ventus K104's on my car, size 245/45-17. For the $95 I paid for them was just a perk - they hook pretty well for me, and turn on a dime. At a recent autocross event that competed in, they turned in well, were very progressive, and did pretty much everything i asked them to, without tons of squealing or other noises. I decided on these tires because of the reviews of several friends who did everything from autox to drift to drag, and they all said the same thing - great tire, cheap price.
I have also heard a lot about the es100's... a lot for the positives, and i cant remember a negative.
The Fuzion ZRi's are also a good tire. I have a friend with an e36 M3 that has had good success out of these.
Where are you located? How much do you plan to spend on tires?
