I can't figure out if there is a special t-56 that is needed for a swap or what is needed to complete a t-56 for a t-5 swap.
If there is anybody out there that has successfully completed this conversion, let me know what I can do to make it happen.
BTW, I have a 1991 GT with a stock t-5.

I'm pretty sure that all you need is to have the correct bellhousing. As a big auto advocate, however, I'm not absolutely sure.

I know the transmission that I buy will have to be from a ford, more than likely.
Can I use a t-56 from a 2003-04 cobra?

It just takes the tranny, shorter drive shaft, and then to fab the tranny supports. It's not a ton of work really once you have the parts. Being a fox though, you MIGHT have to make some room in the tranny tunnel....but other than that, it shouldn't be too bad.

you also have to ask yourself the question as to why you want a 6 speed. It really doesnt make the car faster in a straight line and its heavier and the ford version is not geared as good as the GM version etc etc.

The gearing really isnt super amazing or anything on the ford spec ... they moved the 1 to 1 ratio to 5th and 4th is like .86 then 6th is .63 or something... just imagine if 6th was .50 I would probably pick up 3mpg.

Who put 1:1 to 5th?
I think you have your numbers backwards though.
4 = .86
5 = 1.0
6 = .63
That would make no sense at all.
Ford is 1.0 in 4th gear...don't know the viper spec off the top of my head, but I am 99% sure 4th is 1.0 there as well just with a .5 6th instead of a .63.

At 500 rwhp now...just not quite the 520 I wanted. TQ is 487 I think...I don't remember, dude hasn't sent my damn graph yet.
And, T5 and T56 are both 1.0 in 4th...your car, my car, my buddies car with a cobra spec T56....are all 1.0 in 4th.

I plan to do head/cam/intake swap on the car and a few other things like fuel pump and injectors. Its my daily driver so I would like to get the best gas mileage possible.
Plus it would be cool to have a t-56 in a fox. Nobody around here has one in their's.

If you really want better gas mileage, get the Viper Spec with the .50 overdrive. Otherwise, you are pretty much wasting your time.

But will that extra .13 really make that much difference? What are we talking, about 50 rpms maybe?

Don't make me prove you wrong again Spec. 4th is 1.0 in our cars. We have 2 overdrive gears.
We had this discussion in another thread a long time ago...and I gave you a link to the site will all the ford tranny gear ratios.
The craparo version of the T56 is also a 1.0 4th. I am quite sure the viper spec is as well since Cody @ Stang Hi has a viper spec T56 is his 95 cobra and his 4th is 1.0.

All the T56s in the F-Bodies and the 'vettes have a 1:1 4th gear, and two overdrives.
