Are these cold air intakes on ebay for like fifty bucks just as good as the expensive brand name ones? Whats the big difference? Does a cold air intake make much of a performance difference on a 3.8?

no, no, and no.
Ebay intakes are shit.
Big difference... one you'll have problems one u won't.
Performance... if you want good performane bolt ons quick power add... just do a K&N Air filter, under drive pulley and some exhaust.

there is a snorkel that blocks a great deal of air connecting to your air filter. get the K&N and remove the snorkel.
The tuner is amazing...
someone on here knows the link to the sct site... they are really good... firm shift points, rev limiter gone, governer gone, advance timing on cams, advance the spark detonation

you wont need any sort of tune to just put on a CAI. Just bolt it on and go. They help but are not needed for slight mods like this.
If you want some flash then get a CAI in chrome (from MAC) else K&N will work but some have had issues with the K&N (not sure why though) and dont worry about metal heating up and all that crap... it doesnt make any difference really.
You can get a CAI that leaves the air filter where it is now or you can get one that moves it inside the inner fender. My old mac cai moved it right inside the fender. Here is a pic of what it looked like:
I couldnt tell any difference other than the exhaust tone changed so dont expect any real power gains, maybe 5rwhp/3rwtq from it~

it has my old tunes on it. you'll need to bring it to a local tuner or ship it off to vmp tuning, or i can ship it to him, you tell him your code and what you need and you have him ship it to you
