I have a 2000 v6 automatic with dual flowmaster exhaust.. i dont go to the track and never will.. and i dont wanna ruin any of my engine area.. but for a little more power should i go with 3.73 gears or the 4.10 i mean it is an automatic and i heard you either go with one for standards or the other for auto.. and to go with the gears get the t-lok but i was also thinking a shift kit.. does a programmer like the xcal do the same thing as a shift kit??
For the auto trans i would use the 4:10 ratio if you don't do a lot of highway commuting. It seems the 3:73 are better suited for the standard. The excal. tuner will reprogram the rpm shifts and adjust the firmness fo the shifting to suite what ever style that you like. You can retune for more power with the 93 octane gas, plus reset the speedo for the gear changes that are done at the same time. If you change the tire size you will need to adjust for that also with the tuner.
definetly the 373 unless you are gonna race it there is no reason to get a gear that big i use to run an 11.20 in my 93 hatch with 373 gears and it was plenty of gear
so 4.10 gears and just a xcal? thats all ill need? i wanna do all i can to not mess up my car.. and it'll give me better shifts, and how much faster? and what else would i gain in this process?? and what would i lose.. if anything?
go with 4.10's. i did cai, flowmaster weld-in, 4.10's, t-lok and retuned n reprogrammed for 93 in my 03 v6. it felt like a whole new car. would even chirp the tires into 2nd if i would go hard from a dig. i even got better gas mileage (bout 20mpg) and i do mostly highway driving. definitly go with 4.10's.
Go ahead and buy a t-lok (traction lock, locking differential) because it will help on your launching abilities and won't cost anymore to install it at the same time as the gears.

I've had 4.10s in both an auto and a manual. In the auto I wouldn't have had anything less than 4.10s... it still needed more help cause it was a slow POS. In the 5 speed, the 4.10s also kick ass, but traction's tough to find lol
