Wouldn't the proper question be, "What are the valve specs for the stock heads on a '67 302/351/390/427?

On intake i dougt the intakes would be larger then 1.78" and the exhaust not bigger then 1.50". Were they 4V heads?

I thought the 4v was for the intake, the four holes as opposed to two. 4V heads?
AAHHHH must be the code on the heads. Nevermind. Cancel that.

4v is a term from the 60/70's. Back in the day alot of heads were either made for a two or four barrel carb. The main difference was in the casting. example would be: On the intake on a 4v head you could stick three fingers standing on end, on a 2v head you could only put two. Alot smaller difference on the exhaust but the same outcome. With the demise of the carbureator went also the term. Like you say, today 4v would mean an actual four valve per cylinder head.

I think i get it now. Your talking about Valve lash. Is it a hydraulic cam, i would assume so if you used the term "full turn". If your adjusting by ear i usually loosen till there is an audible click, tighten till click goes away. Then another quarter to half turn usually does it. At a full turn you should be alright as far as not bottoming out the lifter, most lifter manufacturers allow .065 clearance. Do you have poly locks on the rocker studs or self-locking nuts? If you have poly's it can get a little tricky.
This is also contingent on your lifters being fully pumped up. If one or two have air you will have to readjust once it leaves. Did you install new lifters as well and if so did you soak them?

Not to be an ass or anything, but I just did some research. The 4V/2V heads are the same. I've seen it in several places that the only difference in the two on the engine is that with a 4V you have a 4 bbl carb that has 4 "cylinders" in the the intake(one for each barrel) and with a 2V you have a 2 bbl carb with 2 "cylinders" in the intake(one for each barrel). My "How to build Ford V8's on a Budget" book says the same thing.

what i did is what u ssaid i loosend them till they clicked then tightend an they seemed alittle loose so i gave them another quarter turn making it a full when it was all said an done, an as for the locking it was the nut not the poly
