Ok...here is the deal...I think I have gremlins in this car.
It was running great...no problems....just got it used 4 weeks ago.
First things...dont really know if this has any bearing, but when I fill up the gas tank it wont shut off the pump and squirts out...Now I know how to fill a gas tank and have never had that problem......
Now...on to the symptoms that happened this weekend. First off, my girlfriend went to move the car and couldnt get it started....She said that the gas pedal was completely on the floor and nothing was happening....I went and tried and it was as if the pedal was disconnected. So I opened the hood and there was a load of slack more than 3 inches in the cable. What to do? Had no idea...did some reading and found out that sometimes it helps to put some spacers in..sounded like a good idea...(oh yeah we tried jumping the car first to see if it was a battery problem....it wasnt)
Now the next day...and this is where the gremlins come in...we go out and the gas pedal is back to normal...still...nothing. It sounds like it is going to turn over, but there is no gas...no smell of gas nothing...checked the fuel filter and it looks fine....has metal connectors and I dont have the tools to take it off...however the little switch in the trunk for the shut off (I think) the one that they tell you to reset...well it was pushed in and I had to manually unclick it...could that be the problem????
My guess is this....there is no gas getting to the engine..but I am not sure why? I live out on the Navajo Reservation and it would cost a bundle to have it towed...any suggestion on what to check?
Please help!!!

as you turn your key to the on position after you put it in the ignition you should hear you fuel pump cut on (you can hear it from behind the car where the gas tank it, its a little whine that goes away after a sec or so when you turn the key on even if you dont start the car) do you hear this? If not its the fuel pump.
You shouldnt have to use the gas petal at all to start the car, just the brake, and push the clutch in if you have one.
Thats another note, there is a switch that you have to have the brake/clutch pushed in to start the car this may not be working. If you pushed the button in the trunk then the fuel filter wont come on I dont think, you have to turn it back on by pushing it again~

Ok..it does make the sound in the back of the car. I always use the brake and clutch to start. Where would that switch be?

its on the clutch if you look under there you can see it if memory serves me right. I think its pretty easy to find back behind the petal. The issue with the clutch petal is that the quadrent is over on the other side of the brake petal so it is kind of hard to trace around~ I think the switch is under the petal itself though. It shouldnt be to hard to find you can push in the clutch and look for it. You also have to have the brake pushed in as well.

all i have to push is the unlock button on my remote. then i climb in, stick the key in the ignition and turn it until the car starts. so i guess mine must be defective too.

ok I will look under the clutch pedal for the switch.....
If the button in the trunk is depressed and you have to unclick it ie: by sticking something in the little slot I am assuming that there may be something wrong there....however, would it still not reset everything? Still not working....I was suppose to have someone look at it yesterday but he never showed....so I have this nice pretty car that goes really fast sitting half way down my driveway...
I always use the brake pedal if I am on a hill...even though I have the emergency on...and yes some auto's you do have to press in the brake in order to start it...Not that weird!

will the fuel pump still cut on if he has the button pushed wrong in the trunk? I always thought it simply would not turn on.

I don't believe so. I believe that is the fuel pump kill switch...so it is dead when it is off.

Not a problem....I tried to find a switch under the clutch pedal...there is a plug which seems fine....we have terrible pot holes or should I say lakes in our roads plus speed bumps..I have checked every conceivable plug there is ... it getting power and want to turn over, but no gas......just am at a loss.....is the switch in the trunk suppose to be down or up...it clicks but I am not sure it is resetting anything.....

I can't answer that off the top of my head, but I will check mine at lunch and let you know. I believe it is supposed to be up though.
