drop in mileage

Hi all. I've got a 2001 Mustang, V6... I've noticed that recently the mileage has dropped way down. Last I checked, about 6 months ago, I was getting around 21mpg, now I'm getting 14mpg. I notice that sometimes while I am driving that the needle moves up a little, and whenever I start the car the needle is down/lower than when I last killed it. Does anyone have any ideas?

When was the last time you had a tune up?

I would check your coolant, plugs, air filter, fuel filter, tire pressure, clean your MAF.....I would also listen for exhaust leaks, find a smooth flat road and test your cars alignment.

Have you noticed a drop in power as well as gas mileage? Changed your driving habbits? driving more in cold weather then you used to?
As you can see there are lot's of things associated with bad gas mileage. And if it makes you feel any better my fuel gauge tends to move around on me as well.

Mine moves around when I get below a 1/4 full.
