I just bought a 1994 3.8L Mustang and it has an AOD transmission and is suposed to have and AODE but does any body know if it will be compatible? We also tried to start it after putting the gas tank in because it was out when we bought it. It has a new fuel pump and it cranks and fires but it wont start, all of the spark plugs are getting fuel. If anybody can give me an idea as to what could be wrong it is greatly appericiated.

Are you sure you are getting spark to the plugs?
And by saying it has an AOD instead of an AODE are you saying the transmission has been replaced. This might mess with the ECU (computer) enough to not allow the car to run properly or even fire.

That really could be alot of things.
Something simple...do you know that the wires are on the right plugs? This could cause it to not fire and sound like it wants to and even give you spark.
If you are getting fuel, getting spark, and getting air, it's some small thing somewhere holding you back. I'd check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail to make sure there isn't a clog somewhere in the line. Also, I'd check the injectors to make sure they are firing.
From what you are saying, unless you are getting a very heavy smell of gasoline while the car is not starting, I would start looking into something in the fuel system.

ok i got it running, i sandblasted the spark plugs and replaced the plug wires, took it for a test drive and it was running good for about 5 miles then when i turned to make the last mile home it wouldnt do anything more than idle, as soon as you give it more gas it wanted to quit, then i pulled it into the garage and it started running really rough with a nasty lope and stalled, turned the key and it started and ran fine, so anybody have any thoughts about it now as to what could be wrong

Instead of sand blasting the plugs, and this may sound crazy, try buying new ones. They're like 5 bucks for 6 at Wal-Mart.

It actually sounds like your Mass Airflow Sensor could be bad. It will run but when you give it gas it wants to die. There many possibilities though without actually seeing the car.

Sorry, see my avatar. I meant to reply back with something worthwhile, but I've actually had to "work" at work lately.

sry for the double post but i dont think it would be mass air-flow being as i pulled the codes and the first time 3 were transmission and i got a cam position sensor code and an evap code, then the next time i pulled the codes i got 5 transmission codes a evap code and bank 1 and 2 too lean

The Cam position sensor is definately a possibility. Transmission usually wont cause the engine to stumble and though the OBD II codes are useful they are not without their own shortcomings. I have seen people throw money at a car trying to fix a problem using just the OBD II codes that kept showing up and in the ended up spending a lot of money when it was a easy fix.
