It's been out for a while. Personally...I don't like it at all. It can't have the lower end power of a traditional transmission. But, I haven't driven one, so I can't say.

nice idea~ technically the car would be faster if it could continually adjust the gear~ but it would have to be light weight, not suck up to much power, and strong.

well, this year's altima and maxima both have it. and both cars are faster than last years model. the maxima pulls hards as shit if you gun it from a stop. personally, i like it, it's quiet, and the car doesn't jerk or anything while shifting. floor it, and the needle shoots straight to redline and holds there until you let off the gas. accel is pretty speedy too

time will tell if the quality holds up~ the maxima and altima really are not performance cars but more for ride and comfort~ they are peppy and all but I am willing to bet the CVT was geared more toward ride comfort\emissions than performance~

my brother has a Saturn Vue that has a similar tranny and he has not had a single problem with it thus far and it has over 50-60 thousand miles on it. me personally, i have to feel a shift. i was raised to count the shifts and feel how it is shifting to determine if there is a problem (auto of course). if i can't count them or feel it, it bothers me.

ive heard its hard to get used to, as there is no shift feel, and the engine is at the same rpm throughout the entire time you are accelerating.
also the new lancer will use the CVT as well as a few other mitsu's, nissans and i think 'yota is developing it as well. i too am curious as to how well these transmissions hold up.
