Sweet !!! The VT shooter had all the correct ID (3 forms) and came up clean on the state police background check, VT staff and local police drop the ball when a teacher reported he was writing some very fucked up shit and they did nothing other then say there's not enough damaging evidents to check into him any further

Has anyone thought that we couldn't have prevented this...it's just one of those things that happens. Even if he was sent to a counselor, how would that have stopped him.
Stop blaming it on the amount of damn bullets in the gun and blame it on the person. I can speed load my gun just as fast with 10 round mags as 30 round mags. And a backpack full of 10 round mags is just as deadly as a backpack full of 30 round mags.

Not to mention...if someone truly has control over their gun....a 10 round clip is going to kill 10 people...x 2 guns...that's 20 dead....seems just as bad to me.

Myself and a few friends (who all have CCW's BTW) were discussing this last night.
Let's say they ban all weapon purchases from this point on. Guess what, that just means the weapons already in circulation are going to be sold for a higher price. Meaning, the people who are wanting guns to kill people and commit crimes are still going to have guns, while the average citizen who wants a gun for safety/ hunting/ sport will not be able to afford one. This way, when a person breaks into your home in the middle of the night with a pistol, you will have to fight them off with your hands, leaving them with the upper hand.
As far as campus safety goes, how about a civilian task force who, when there is a security concern, is teamed up with a member of the Campus Police Department to secure the campus. Even if you had an officer for every building on a campus, there is no way one officer could hold the building against something like that.
The task force should have to be certified in both weapons safety and marksmanship. Also, there should be monthly or bimonthly training sessions you must attend where there will be not only book training but also situational training. I helped run a training program for the local SWAT team and it was a very successful venture. Not only did the SWAT team learn from the exercises, those of us that were helping with it saw what happens from their viewpoint.
This way, if something like this was to happen again, we could call upon this task force to help secure the campus and thwart off a threat on the students and innocent civilians.
Unless measures are taken, there is no way we can prevent something like this from happening again. If there would have just been one professor or student in that building who had a legal carry weapon on their person, who knows what the outcome could have been. As long as we are preventing any weapons from our college campuses, there is always the threat of someone committing a mass murder such as this.

That type of thing will never happen and here is why. We as a society have moved into a mental state that says the government is responsible for everything in our lives. They should feed us, cloth us, and protect us. Many in government believe this, and many...many...citizens also believe this.
We are no longer a "Take the bull by the horns" country...we are becoming more of a "Mother may I" country. Responsibility for ones actions and reactions is no longer valid. Everyone else is responsible for your actions and reactions now.
This country was created to get away from England and its ridiculous taxes. If you look at history, we are going right back around that circle. Taxes continue to go up...and we are becoming pussified just like those in England. One day history is going to repeat itself and their will be a new declaration of independence once those with a "can do" mentality get tired enough with the "let me do for you" people.

Haha, should have told me. A local gun store was selling Smith and Wesson pistols for cost or under costs. They set the record for the most handguns sold in a single weekend, something around 500 lol.

I would...but we're not allowed to carry on base. So I'd have to leave the weapon at the house when I went to work, which means that it would pretty much always sit at the house.

+1.
I am trying to get into the company my G/F works for doing insurance adjustments (their adjusters make over 100k a year for going to accidents and shit...sign me up)...and they require adjusters to carry.
However, even if I don't go there...with the number of car jackings and senseless shootings over here lately...it is time to pack a little surprise for everyone.

I will say, for anyone who is wanting to get a handgun, go to the training. Learn how to use it and use it effectively. Having a gun will do you no good if you can't hit anything.
I'd look into getting involved with a local shooting club and doing a competition like IDPA or the sorts. Something that will help your skills and confidence with the weapon.
I have never bought a weapon with the intent of self defense or prevention, but, I do know that if it came down to it, I am fully capable of protecting myself and my loved ones against an attack.
