....if you pop a head gasket on a 3V mustang, you have to pull the dam motor just to take the heads off....... Imagine the labor costs later on. Ford, WTF? I pulled the head off the 302 a couple weeks ago with room to spare....

It takes what, 3 hours to pull a motor in a mustang?

The question is...who has the equipment necessary to pull an engine?
That's where the costs will come in.

*raises hand*
All you need is an engine hoist and find/make a plate to lift the engine out.

It may have more to do with the front cover than the head itself...

Very possible...which is why I am intrigued. If that is the case...it will just boost my thought of why 99-04 > 05+ .

I'm the same way you are, I have access to any tools/machines I may need. But not everyone is in the same boat.

This is according to the latest issue of 5.0 and Super Fords. They did some cams and some headwork on an 05 GT.

I was under the impression that the 05+ actually had a larger engine bay than the 99-04. Either way, if I'm working on the heads of a 4.6, I'd rather pull the engine anyway.

i have a 06 GT and i dont see any reason why you cant pull the heads with the engine in the car you just have to tear down thw whole front of the motor to get the cover off and you have to do that even if its on the stand (the impossible is only under founded)

But have you done it? Not saying I have, but I just keep hearing that you would have to pull the motor.

no I havn't but the biggest clearence issue i see is the firewall & the cure for that is to lower the engine cradle i few inches.
