boarg warner issue

I have a borgwarner tranny in my stang i need to find out how to idenitify it i called boargwarner to fing out thier out of bussniess and are now tremac i want to service it they told me its probally a t5 and to put dex in but when i put it in the air and took out the fill plug thier is gear oil in it so any help is much apprciated

if it is the oem tranny and it is an 87lx then it is a T-5

my car used to be a 4cyl auto im new to the mustangs so im not shure if they came from the line with a boargwarner and im being told its one fluild but thiers different fluild in it

If it's a T5, which it most likely is, it takes ATF.
It's pretty safe to say that if it is a manual, it needs ATF. Even if it's not a T5, it is probably a very similar tranny (Tremec 3550, etc) and will also need ATF.

it says boargwarner on the top by the shifter im just leary to put in the atf cuz it shifts fine is thier anyway to find out what the hell this trany is thier is no tag on the bell only marking is at the top

There should be a tag on the transmission that labels its information. You can probably see it from under the car. It might be on top of the transmission so make sure to look there. Some have ran just gear oil in them, they should have ATF Dextron/Mercon III.

listen to these guys, almost all modern trannies use dextron III or V
unless its a 4 speed.. then whoever put gear oil in there did so wrongfully.

Dextron/Mercon IV has some anti foaming agents but they are not needed for our transmissions (I think at least)
