So today I was on the way back to my apartment from this distrubution facility I was visiting for work (I left work early, was going to a Jimmy Buffet concert). I was about a mile from my exit when my engine temp. light came on, so I rolled down the window, cranked the heat all the way up and tried to make it to my exit. I think I am gonna make it, then as soon as I hit the one ramp TONS of white smoke comes pouring out from under my hood so I pull into a parking lot right of the exit, just left it there, and walked a mile back to my apartment (Margaritas were calling my name and I was pissed, besides my cell phone is also broken so I couldn't call for a ride).
A little bit ago I went with a friend to try to limp the Jeep home. It died on me every time I took my foot off the gas and sounded like it had NO compression whatsoever. Also, the little bit of coolant I had left was brown and smelled like oil and when I checked the oil dipstick it read way high and was runny like water.
Needless to say things are not looking too good right now  I did take it to get an oil change from a quick lube place against my better judgement last week. It would be less shitty if I found out they fucked up, but I don't see how they can cause a headgasket to fail by doing an oil change, especially since I watched them the whole time and they put in the correct mount of the correct oil.
Oh well, its just time and money, its not like I was planning to move into my new house this weekend........

Tell me about, when it happened I was hoping it was just a T-stat because the heater wasn't blowing out warm air, but after I checked on it a little bit ago I am pretty much sure its the head gasket.

i have a 93 cherokee w/ 192000 miles..... still runs but its making a shit load of noises..... few weeks ago i was comin home from work and the serpetine belt broke which then wrapped around the water pump pulley a broke it off..... luckily i was in my cul-de-sac..... i feel the pain....  |

On the bright side, head gasket blown or no, your engine will probably keep going...
We had someone here in jersey fry their pistons... they ran the motor so hot it was rediculous, you wouldn't believe the carnage pistons were like slugs/etc...
....
The repair included cleaning/checking the head, flushing all coolant passages replacing 3 pistons from underneath the jeep and replacing rings on the others/ bearings (didn't pull the engine) took about 2 days worth of spare time to get it done... The worst part was the intake/exhaust manifold haha, I dislike how they're installed...
And last I heard it was still running today...

After it cooled down, I drove the sum' bitch home. It died every time I took my foot off the gas, but it kept going  I swear these engines are tanks.
Oh, its a 99 Cherokee, btw.
