I read in Car and Driver magazine (where they slammed the Shelby GT) that "building your own Shelby GT could void factory warranty". I talked to the dealer where I bought my car and they said "yes, they can deny certain warranty claims" but "it depends on the service shop you take it to". Just wondering if anyone had run into problems.

A dealership can void your warranty any time they want for any reason.
It is your responsibility to remember that you are protected by law and the dealership must prove that the change you made is the cause of the warranty issue before they can legally void that part of the warranty.
A dealership here tried to claim that a local 05 V6's transmission wouldn't shift right because the owner put a CAI on their car. Tried to void the warranty on the tranny. Yeah...they can void anything they want and they hope you are uninformed.

Talk to local dealerships and make sure they are mod friendly and know the law... not just assume that they can do what ever they wish.

Find a dealer that mods stangs before selling them, these type of dealers are not out to void warranties. Dealers get paid to do warranty work, not turn it away. My local dealer sells and installs after market parts.

I believe it depends on the shop. Our shop would fix anything, even if it was out of warranty, we'd use the 'parts warranty' as many parts have warranties longer than the 3 year/36k miles.. We would never complain about aftermarket parts, well we did once, some guy had long tube headers on his mustang, we charged him 3 hours labor to remove them so we could drop the trans he grenaded with the slicks... the guy had a glovebox stuffed with time slips haha we fixed it..
It really just depends on the shop

As of late ford has really cut the payout for warranty work. Ford dealerships are looking for anyway they can to make you pay the regular rate as by charging the warranty rate they dont make near anything.

I work for Cadillac and it really goes case by caseas long as it won't pop up a red flag with gm we will slide the warrenty claim through.

Acura is Comptech friendly. but still some dealers will not touch an Acura that has Comptech parts on it. most of the time it's because they do't have anyone qualified to work on it and they are worried they might mess something up. here, i have 3 techs that are Comptech friendly and will work on it. and with Acura and Comptech, if something messes up due to the Comptch mod, Comptech will cover the repair. but typically Acura will not void the warranty. anything else, you're screwed.

well I have a dash rattle in my 06 GT but don't want to take it in for service unless i pull the n2o kit for fear of them red flaging my VIN # for future drivetrain repairs that I might need

I just bought my 06GT last week and went ahead with the ford ext warranty. They did tell me right off the bat it will not cover the ford racing suspension it came with, however they said nothing about he CAI(airaid) which also came with the car. The CAI would work better with a tune however with that warranty in place I wont be tuning it anytime soon. Outside of considering a catback exh and throttle body spacer, most mods would be cosmetic such as the roush front facia since I have the rear spoiler already. Things do break so I figured it's worth it in the long run as I plan on keeping this car for a long while.

When I worked for Ford they had no way of flagging VINs like that... just up to the dealer to refuse work or not... don't know if its' changed in the past few years

There is...I think it is call Oasis if I understand it correctly. It is a DB of what car has had what work done and what not I believe. I have never seen it so I don't know the details of it, but I think it stores warranty info in there as well...like what was warrantied and what was denied and why.

I'm sure it's works the same
Great example Shane that works at Thunder Racing has a CTSV I had his car this week cause brunt up his rear diff again and our warrenty rep didn't want to fix it cause it is custom tuned. & other mods. I had to really had to stick my neck out. to get the warrenty claim to push through.

At the same time, they would have to prove the custom tune is what burnt up the rear diff in order to not warranty the part.....

what they were trying to pull is that the diff is made to handle the shock hp. but not any more. I responded with the fact that your marketing sports car and it sounds to me like the parts are not good enough. expecially sense it's the same diff thats in the V6 CTS and the V6s tear them up all the time.
