speedo gears?

I've got the 3.73's in but now my speedo is way out of whack. I was told you have to split the tranny in order to change the speedo gears? Is this right? If that's the case it sounds like quite a job.

The speedo gear is easy to get to but it wont fix your issue 100%. To fix it 100% you will need to put the other gear that the speedo gear meets on the output shaft of your transmission. It is quite a job if you do all that. Depending on your year you may can get a speed cal unit~ look on dallasmustang.com to see if your car will work with it.

i actually did the job where you split the tranny....it wasn't too bad but i did spend about a day to a day and a half doing it...there are some tricks that are helpful to know about when doing it....just let me know if you're going to tackle the job

i have a 94 gt and i know that the tranny is probably different in your car than on mine but when i swiched over to 3.73's we changed the speedo gears in about 5 minutes. from what i remember my cousin just opened a compartment on the side of the tranny and swiched it out. i dont remember to clearly cause it was some time ago but it didnt take a long time.

Yea, putting in a speedo gear is very easy. The only down side is that it doesnt correctly it.

That is the easy gear to do, inside the tranny, there is another gear on the output shaft that drives the gear you changed. To change that one you have to take off the tail shaft of the tranny, which requires a lot of other work.

Dallas Mustang has a speed cal for 94-04 aparently. How does this work on a '95 GT? I thought the only way to get the speedo right was to change the gears on the output shaft and the speedo gear on pre '96 mustangs?

its not so bad, i've done the inner gear a couple of times.. just remember to pick up some permatex ultra gray (the best!) to seal the tranny back up.
