Its not bad at all... I actually did a 6G (2000 V6) Upgrade... The 3G isnt much different - the reason i went with the 6G was because there isnt supposed to be any kind of bracket modifying to be done. I still did some on mine, but it works just fine. Good luck, and post if you have any trouble, or let us know how it goes!

I've done it. Grinding the bracket was a pain, but other than that it wasn't bad. I got mine from PA Performance with their wiring kit as well.

both of my 5.0's have 3g's. i used an electric grinder with a 1/2" thick wheel, took less than 2 min. to grind clearance in the bracket...not sure y it was a pain in the ass for bbunt. i had the bracket ground down, alt. wired and installed in less than 30 min. it's very easy. u will have to use your original pulley if u use a junk yard unit. the 3g pulley uses a wider belt. i paid $15 dollars for mine at "pick-n-pull"...it's freak'n awsome. i would cut the plugs from the donor car if i were u. i forgot to and had to make my own harness when i got home. i got enough juice for my subs and msd...best $15 bucks i spent.

I know a couple of guys who did it to their old 5.0s and absolutely loved it once it was done. One of them said it was the best upgrade he did next to subframes.

this site helped me alot so far

not that this guy has said anything that everyone else didn't, but he has very detailed electrical scematics, and goes into much detail about 3G itself.

It's a good way to go. I got rid of a lot of little gremlins with the 3G upgrade in my 90 coupe. Just some comments:
- If you get a 3G for a 94/95 Mustang the pulley it comes with will be correct. The original pulley is not correct on the 3G and will not line up quite right.
- You can buy a remanufactered alternator at an auto parts store with a warranty, then when you run 8000 RPM a few times and burn it up, you can get a new one for free.
- You should use a fuse or breaker in the main power harness in case something goes wrong.
- Whatever you do, don't use the factory 10 gauge power wires, or you run a serious risk of a wiring fire. Run a new 4 gauge wire over to the starter solenoid.
- The bracket modification takes about 2 minutes with a carbide bit on a die grinder - No problem.
- If you are desperate to save weight, like a road racer friend of mine, the 6G is a little lighter. You can get one out of a super coupe.
Good luck.
-Matthew

Got mine out of the junkyard for dirt cheap, and works great. Another vote for the Smithmonte site, lots of good info there.
