There is autocross people on the site?
I would say like G stock or something? I wouldn't even mention the 3.73 gears, but if you want to play fair, I believe 3.73's are a factory option in some Fords. Underdrives might have some effect. I'd just find an SCCA book or try the site I guess.

Mike, if we can ever find someone to give a straight answer I'd like to know what class my car would be as well.

If you want to follow the rules then any change to the stock rear end ratio will put you in SM at a minimum. Pulleys are allowed in ST classes and in ESP.

well, if you follow the update/backdate tables in the esp section of the rulebook, you can change to another ratio offered between 1979-1993, no matter if its cobra, GT, SVO, even cobra R if im not mistaken. I can even run subframe connectors IF they match what would have been offered on a stock car (convertible).
As far as i can tell, unless someone can correct me, my car would be in SM, anyway, because i have gears that were not offered on a production mustang. I dont know of any mustang between 79-93 that had 3.73's

Wait, so your saying that if you stock parts from any mustang, you would stay in a stock class???? Hell take an IRS out of a 03 04 cobra with the 275/40's offered on it, do a Bullitt/Cobra brake conversion, take swaybars off an 00 Cobra R, you could use a 351W with GT40 heads, since that's what the 95 Cobra had, and that would make for one HELL of an autocross/road course car that is still "stock". Of course there is quite a chunk of change involved.

AH ... well I did not include your (A5295) point about the update back date thing cuz like you you I was not aware of 3.73s being available stock off the dealer lot for the year model mustangs I have been interested in (94-04). But you are correct.
bullit .... The stock "update/backdate" allowance fairly strict and specific.
Stock rules....
"Option package conversions may be performed between specific
vehicles of a particular make and model, but only between
configurations from within a particular model year. Such conversions
must be totally complete and the resultant car must meet all
requirements of this Section."
Now in ESP you may be able do what you are suggesting:
sec 15.1.C:
"Equipment and/or specifications may be exchanged between
different years and models of a vehicle if (a) the item is standard
on the year/model from which it was taken, and (b) the years/
models are listed on the same line of Appendix A (Street Prepared
Classes). The updated/backdated part or the part to which
it is to be attached may not be altered, modified, machined or
otherwise changed to facilitate the updating/backdating allowance.
Standard factory installation methods, locations, and configurations
are allowed. The updating and/or backdating of engines,
transmissions or transaxles must be done as a unit; component
parts of these units may not be interchanged."
year model listing for ESP:
Mustang & Cougar (’69-’70)
Mustang & Cougar (’71-’73)
Mustang II, all (’74-’78)
Mustang & SVO & Cobra R, V6
& V8 (’79-’93)
Mustang (‘94-’04) all NOC
including Cobra, Cobra R
(SN95)
Mustang (‘05+) (S197)
Having raced an 04 Cobra in ESP last year I can say that if you have a GT then it would likely be better to put a MM torque arm and pan hard bar on it as a far as the rear end goes. Thats what my son and I plan for next year on his GT. We plan to put on parts that we want to and then class the car accordingly. I suspect we will be SM and not very competitive time wise but thats not our main goal. An example would be using 3.55's instead of 3.73's, since the 03/04 Mach 1 had 3.55's then you could stay in ESP. If there had not been a Mach 1 model then you would have had to go to the IRS to run 3.55's as in the Cobras.
