they changed a couple of minor things, like the roof and hood, but everything else is exactly the same

If you mean the 69/70 Ford Blue Crescent Hemi engine that was in the Boss 429 then I don't think so. That engine was developed for NASCAR racing and Ford had to sell a certain number of them for the street to use it in NASCAR. It proved unreliable on the street and very expensive to maintain so it faded into the woodwork. I would rather see an updated version of the 427 SOHC that debuted in 1964 I believe. That was a torque beast and still revved to 6500 with no problems.

Call me old fashioned,but that styling exercise looks way to euro for an American icon like the Ford Mustang.
Leave that stuff for the overseas crowd and stay with the basic package sort of what they did with the new Bullit version,lean and mean.
Only up the cu in and hp to a level worthy of calling it a "BOSS 429"
Shoe the new Boss with some extra wide Magnum 500's,delete the spoiler on the back and let er rip.

Nope.. she was a yellow 73? Mach 1. Not sure of the year, but I know she was an early 70s Mach 1.

I would love to see this style come back. A couple of years ago, I remember someone actually converted an 05 to look very retro and it made it to the cover of Mustang Enthusiast. I spent the last hour trying to locate the magazine but no dice. If they brought that style back, I'm sure FORD will do very well.

mainly the thunderbird didnt thunder at all, and it sure in the hell didnt fly. the Thunderbird moniker used to go to a car that was equally priced, powered and poised to compete with the Corvette. even the ol MN12 birds were decent. the new retro clusterfucks were just crap, there was nothing great about them to even warrant the pricetag.

IMO ford needs a new Thunderbird. base model to be a turbo 4cyl rwd 2-seater, good suspension and angular looks, poised to take on the Sky/Solstice and Miata, priced at 25K out the door, oh and 35mpg to boot. upgraded version sporting a 4v 4.6L mated to a 6spd. top line version being the 5.4L and Blower combo from the GT500, and a beefed up suspension. oh and it has to be light, weighing in at under 3K Lbs. if ford made that car, holy shit, the Thunderbird is back.

2. People have this misconception that the retro Birds were some sort of failure. They did exactly what they were supposed to do, they look good, are fun to drive, and are on their way to being collectors items. NO, they were never meant to be a race car, sorry. They were only meant for a limited run (they didn't discontinue do to low sales or for any other reason) and never meant to compete with ANYTHING, they were unique.


CONCEPT: Mehh, it's decent looking but not deserving of Mustang badging. Give us something new, something that can be put into the dictionary under the definition of sex. BUT, it at least doesn't have a chrome grille...I mean i half expect Mulally & Fields to come into work with some diamond encrusted "grillz" in their mouths.

Fords biggest problem is they have not learned too compete in other niche's!
Ford has the Mustang which occupies the Muscle car/Pony Car niche.
Where is Ford's Sports car? Gm has the Corvette, Dodge has the Viper, what does Ford have? They throw a Ford GT for a 3 year run then cancel it. So much for building brand loyalty and creating a huge following.
Ford should of kept the Ford GT and they would of had the top dog for Halo Cars.
The Thunderbird could of been a niche car. Creating an enthuisiast following is how you sell cars for the future.

Early T engines had problems. A few mods and the s engines had no problems. As far as a cammer goes, more expensive then a boss 9. Ask me how I know? I own both.

This car is a digrace to the mustang name. The 429 would be an awesome addition to the current body style. Little know to some people ford still produced a limited number of Boss 429 engines until the mid 90's. They acctually made a prototype in 1994 that was fuelinjected and produced over 800 horse power to the rear wheels and did tens off the dealer lot. So the engine is there for production they just need to do something with it. And in 1964 ford did produce a sohc 427 that was pobably the best thing to roll out of the dearborn plant next to the scj 428 and boss 302 and K code 289 in the early shelbys. It was offered in the falcon and galaxy if my knowledge serves me correctly.
