What lights if any are on your amp? The subs won't overheat. The amp will.

I saw the title "Subs" and his user name was "jaredp' and was thinking that this was going to be something about Subway.

Infinity makes much better amps than Sony. Always want to make sure the amp is matched up correctly to the subs though.

basically, the problem is that the sony xplod amp isn't enough to power the 2 rockford sub's...even though power-wise it probably should be, the xplod amps (1) are highly over-rated power wise (2) are very inefficient compared to some of the other brands. I used to have an xplod 2 channel 1200W amp powering two 10" Alpine subs, and it worked just fine for about 6 months through all power ranges. Then all of a sudden one day, the amp start going into it's stupid safe mode. Eventually, I figured out that the amp would work just fine at lower power and mid power ranges, but the second I cranked the bass up to full power, it would short out and go into safe mode. Basically, the amp essentially wore itself out, in a rather short period of time, and wasn't enough to power the subs at full power. Try running your setup at lower power for now to see if you can at least get it to stay running for a while. I changed to a Kenwood mono block 1000W amp and I have never had a problem again...so my suggestion would be not to buy another Xplod as they don't last hope this helps...

This is exactly what happened to me with my 2ch 600w Xplod amp. It would work fine with about half power going to it but when I cranked it it cut out.
I got a full 4 years out of it powering one sub around 250rms then one day it just stopped playing.

I have had nothing but good from Planet Audio amps. If you got a local shop near you that carries them you may want to check them out.

I traded for it but I would guesstimate in the 200 to 400 range.
