I was goofing off tonight and hit the gas hard in first and it started wheel hoping? Why? I thought the solid rear didnt wheel hop like a irs car.I thought maybe it was just that stretch of road but it did it 3 other times tonight I dont wanna break anything but i know it cant be good for it any ideas what could cause this?

Solid rear will wheel hop too, but unlike IRS, there are simple things you can do to stop it. Namely put on a set of decent lower control arms like the ones from Maximum Motorsports.

A straight axle will hop to, but unlike with a IRS you can kind of say the hell with it and just drive through it and not worry about breaking anything. I'm sure with enough power and wheel hop you will break a straight axle to though.

You can snap a half shaft on a stock 03 cobra IRS with wheel hop, it is NOT good to ever just go through it.
With that kind of power you REALLY need to start paying attention to suspension... its far more important on high hp/tq cars than most think. Suspension is what wins races, power is worthless unless you can hook it up.
I would look into maximum motorsport, they are the best out there.

might suggest a rear-end girdle support system/cover...cheap way to stiffen up the rear-end a little bit more in conjunction with new upper and lowers...

Yes, in your quest for maximum 60' times and a good way to maximize your combo, check this out.... Depending on your want to spend money check out
**********************THE BEST Upper Control Arm Kit on the market**********************
There, you can get a great idea for what you can do with very little. Example:
10's on an NA 347 on 18 inch(YES I SAID 18 INCH) DR's with 60's below 1.70. Can't find it on the site but it was on there a few weeks ago.

There is huge difference in setting your car up for the quarter mile track or the autox so make sure you do it right.

We are going to get along even better now that you said that...
On a side note, no it's not that I don't respect autocross and what not, just not my cup of tea.

I personally run both drag racing and auto-x and they are both a he11 of a lot of fun to me...quite honestly, i dont think of one as being any better than the other, they are two completely different things, but what i love about them both is being in control of the car...that's what it's really all about, the love of cars and going fast....the end result is the exact same, going as fast as you can in an attempt to turn in the quickest time...how you get there is comlpletely different, but the competition is exactly the same...

on the thread topic, the S197's are awful about wheel-hopping, hence the desperate need for stiffening the rearend with a/m LCA's and UCA
