65 mustang generator to alternator conversion question??

I've done a few different versions. Do you want to stick with a Ford type alt? The easyest one i've done is to a GM one wire type.

sorry i havent gotten on in a while. im tryin to swap the generator with a alternator this weekend. The new one is made by Excell and it is also a 1-wire. I bought brackets from Summit racing and looked at it today because i have the alternator too and i couldnt tell how in the world th ebrackets would work with that alternator. oR any alternator really. They sit sideways compared to a generator so i dont know. Did you have problems with the mounting process??

happen to metal fab alot. i make most my own stuff. So brackets are never much of a problem. You don't have any pics of the set up?

I believe the set up you want will look something like the first pic i posted. Most generators were positioned way outside away from the motor. Alts were put alot closer to the block. The top bolt was the pivot point with the adjuster on the bottom.

Ok I got my alternator mounted this weekend and need somebody who has the experience of hooking up a 1-wire alternator. There is a red bolt on the back which is what they may call the (1-wire) I guess. But there is a plug coming out of the bottom and i bought a clip to go into that and it has 2 wires coming off of it. Im not sure how to go about hooking all these wires up and which ones i really need because I had a generator on the car before and it had a wire for "field" and a wire for "battery". I dont know if i need to ignore those wires and just hook up the red postive bolt to the positive on my solenoid. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks,Donald

The plug in thing is from the exciter. It's what tell the alt to charge after is vehicle starts. That power from that should come from ignition, what i'm trying to remember is should if come constant power or give it power just while it cranking to start? The red bolt in the back is what you hook up your power to charge your battery.
