Thunderbird package?

Someone I know has a '67 coupe that is supposed to have something called a "thunderbird" package. I guess that there is an overhead console, and the door panels are different than other mustangs of the same year.
He also told me that it has a hipo 289, which I would like to know exactly where a K in the vin sequence would determine whether or not this is just a run of the mill motor, or a "k" code hi performance motor.
I haven't seen this car, but, he has told me this same story more than once, and has not ever failed to deliver the same comments.
Could anyone out there help me find out what this could be, and maybe some history on the package?

i never did understand y they did the hi-po stangs, guessing a gimme so people would buy idk

Since the first post on this, he has also told me that the car came with an automatic that only took filters from fairlane transmissions.
The whole situation boggles my mind.

Today, he told me that there are also map lights in the overhead console.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Has anyone seen anything similar to what I have described?
