Mechanical question

I've been having some issues when first taking off to drive my car, seems to be only a first gear thing. When I take off, I have to control the clutch extra carefully or else the car will shake like its about to stall. The clutch cable is a tab loose and needs to be tightened, but could there be a bigger problem at hand? I am by no means inexperienced with the standard shifting cars, since that's pretty much all I have ever driven, so I know its not me, plus I've had this car for about 2.5 years now, so I know that something isn't right.

Try to take up the slack in the clutch cable via the stock quadrent (force it to take it up if it wont do it on its own by holding the quadrent as you ease the clutch petal from the floor back out to make the pawl gear click up and take up slack)
