chucking out the Mach460. had my last straw with it today and it always going to disk5 track1 when it gets hot and you try to press next track on another cd, it finds itself going back to disc5 track1. fuck you, i dont want to listen to disk 5 track 1 all the fucking time!
so its going. bought a decent alpine deck that reads mp3's.
Alpine Deck
im not going with the mach amps, however im not going to gut everything either. im going to splice into the factory harness for power, gnd, etc. im going to run new wires to the fronts and rear. up front will be what im looking at right now, a set of Alpine Components for Front and a set of Alpine 2-ways for the rears
anyone have any input? reason for re-wiring and not just getting the adapter is because the front passenger side is blown and the rear drivers side is blown, so i need to replace them anyways. plus i hear the speakers in the mach setup are on a 9v setup due to the amps, dunno how true that is but i dont care, i dont really care much for the mach deck so i dont want to have it control some new and awesome speakers.
also contemplating putting the sub setup back in. dunno bout that one yet, its all dusty in my attic and eh......

So are you buying new amps? or using the HU preamps?

just going to use the head units. if its not enough i can always get my hands on a decent amp, but in the past ive always run components from head unit and never bothered me. i dont listen to music abhorrently loud anyways.

Amps just don't make things louder, they give out a stronger signal so the sound is better.
What I'm thinking of though, is that just plug in the harness anyway. I think it'd make things easier unless your looking at better wiring. If those speakers are blown it should be the speakers. Wiring should have no effect.
Sorry I feel like I'm missing something?

yeah, the special harness for the mach460 is like 40-60 shipped.
or i could use 3 vampire clips and 4$ worth of speaker wire and an extra hour to run 4 sets of wire.
i probably wouldnt notice a difference between an auxilary amp setup or going with the head units internal amp.
i would go with the harness option if i didnt have to get new speakers all around. i figure while im installing new speakers, its not much more work to run new wire and not spend the extra for the harness just to make it plug and play. besides, what are the mach amps rated at anyways?

Ever try Circuit City or Best Buy for the harness adapter? I don't have the Mach system so I don't know the exact price. I do know that premium and Mach systems might invest on that amp bypass/integration harness as a heads up.
You could still just splice the new HU into the existing harness. Running all that wire is gonna be a pain. You'll have to remove the dash run wires through the doors, and remove the door trim, and run the wires to the back as well, most likely alongside the existing wiring. Installing those speakers into the existing wiring shouldn't be such a problem.
If you're up to all that then I see no problem with it, it could be a chance to get better wires anyway. I'm just trying to offer another view instead of doing what may be a lot of work.
As for the Mach Amp, I don't know it's specs, but I believe they are semi-decent. I wouldn't waste it on aftermarket stuff, besides I believe Ford's systems matches up oddly against aftermarket systems (i.e. Voltage, RMS of the Mach match up a lot better to Ford's speakers).

sure did. we had a pain in the ass time with getting the right harness through best buy when we did a deck in my buddies 95 GT with the premium system. i just dont want to deal with the hassle. if i have issues with getting the deck to power up then i might go that route, but otherwise i dont think its enough work to warrant the cost of a harness.
i always heard the mach and ford stuff run speakers at 9v instead of 12v and different ohm ratings. IMO sounds like horseshit but then again it really wouldnt suprise me.
lol ill let you know if i decide to go that route. spending 150 on a deck i doubt i will take the effort to swap it back to the 460 HU if/when i sell/trade in the car, so likely ill let it go to someone on here, you get dibs!

If the 9V is for the power out, I didn't realize it goes that high as 12 V, I thought 9 was the most. I know a lot of AM HUs are rated between 4V and 6V. As for the ohms I actually do believe they are different. It makes sense in the long run anyway if you think about it. Ford gets their hands on even the audio in the car. Car's audio is specifically designed in the Mustang for best performance. Then again it depends on what speakers you get and how you wire it all. 1 ohm, 2 ohm, 3.5, 4, 8, 32 ohm.

I thought this thread was gonna involve sexual relations.
On a related note, I know absolutely nothing about car audio, nor do I care to. So I guess I should move along.

I 'm in love with that headunit.
Let me know what Alpine components you go with. I want to replace my front speakers and make the sail panels look like this:

i bought the speakers that are linked in the first post.
btw i already have the mach window sail pieces. i hear you can take them apart and mount any aftermarket tweeter in there so it looks stock.

I just have to find the Mach 460 sail panel. Plus, I've heard that the there are Mach 460 door panels and non-Mach 460 door panels.
Not sure if that is true though.
