The other day I was cleaning my rims and noticed that one of the stick on weights had fallen off. Figures. It also explained the car not tracking straight. So today was my only day off all week and I figured I would drop by real fast and have them balance it because I had lifetime balace on the tires. If figured it would only take twenty minutes tops.
So I go in and tell the owner, who is an awesome guy, that I just needed the drive side front tire balanced. They bring the car around and I figured I would be gone in twenty minutes.
Thirty minutes later, the lead man calls me up there and this discussion begins.
Lead Man: "Mr. Harding, one of the front lugs nuts is stuck, and the stud is spinning on the hub. It may cost a little extra to fix this."
Me: "No, no, no. You guys did this the last time when you were putting them on. Go look at the passenger side rim, and notice why there are two different sized lug nuts on them. You are going to fix this."
Lead Man: "Okay Mr. Harding. It may take a little while for us to cut it off."
They offered to take me home, but I declined. Instead, I walked back in the shop and kept an eye on them the entire time. So here is the end result:
So next time if I need my tires balanced, I will take them off with the breaker bar, and drive the wheel up there to them.

seems no matter service people try to get these days, its always something and they always want to try and get more money out of you.
I try to find people I know are reputable and go with them, I dont trust just any garage for doing work on my vehicles.

seems especially when you have a sports car, they think you have tons of money since you take care of your car.
my friend was getting one of the many recalls done that ford on had out for his 03 Cobra and he found out that when he was heading back one of the mechs. were out joy riding his cobra and reving it up in the back of the shop, yes he has a borla exhaust, and is pushing like 600+ at the wheels...but no reason for them to abuse someone elses property, he was rather out raged I would say and let them know it.

When I worked on cars, I treated every customers car the way I would want my car to be treated by a technician
Don't stereotype, its mean

This sounds so familiar... I got some new tires and took them to X place(ok it was OK Miller on 45 N), and when they were putting the wheels with the new tires back on, in walks the manager with a stripped lugnut..... He says that it'd be a good idea to have it fixed.... As if it was MY fault.
I went to the ford dealership, priced a new lugnut and stud and installation price, took the printout back to them and yelled at them like no tomorrow saying how their guy just put the lugnut in the air gun and pressed the trigger without even starting the nut and ended up crossthreading it. I told him he was going to pay ford to fix it.
20 minutes later it had a new stud and new lug on it that they installed
I love it when people treat me like I don't know shit about cars.

I didn't think it would be that difficult to take a wheel off and put a weight on it.

Where I work, we deal a lot with a local Big 10 Tire, and they do strip a lug/stud every now and then, but they always tell the customer what happened and fix it all out of their pocket. This group is a pretty stand up group, but of course I can't speak for all Big 10's.
